<description>I haven&apos;t read anything by Terry Pratchett, the fantasy humorist, in quite some time, though I read all of his books when I was a teenager. I hadn&apos;t thought of Pratchett in a good long while, either, until about six months ago, when he announced that he was suffering from a rare, early-onset form of Alzheimer&apos;s. <description><![CDATA[<p>Damn! Damn, damn, damn. Thank you Paul; I wouldn't have known either.</p>

<p>Last fall I saw Terry Pratchett at a book signing outside Philadelphia. He was hilarious, with the most amazing (journalist's? British journalist's?) memory I have ever encountered. Kept trotting out one funny story after another, like the world's best dinner guest. He opened by joking about his forgetfulness, mentioning his keys a lot. </p>

<p>The diagnosis can't be true!! And if it is true, it's one of the greatest tragedies.<br />
