This Week on Drugs

posted by on July 25 at 17:15 PM

“Heroin Logs”: Allegedly tossed out window to police officers’ feet.

A Stash Indeed: Pot found in evidence room after 29 years.

Seized Cars: Become sweet ride for police chief’s daughter.

During Labor Day weekend 2002, St. Louis city police responded shortly after midnight to an unusual call. The police chief’s daughter, Aimie Mokwa, then 27, had crashed a car.

It was a car she didn’t own. St. Louis police had seized it during a drug arrest and turned it over to a private company that holds a lucrative towing contract with the department.

Eight Years: Teen sentenced for giving pot to tots.

Bitter Sixteen: Starbucks closing more stores than announced.

Singapore Sling: Aussie journalist faces 10 years for heroin.

Street Stupid: Non-pharmaceutical fentanyl blamed for rash of overdoses.

Green Giant: Congressional Black Caucus split over menthol rules.

2 weeks, 2 friends dead. Anyone have any good advice for dealing with deaths of people too young to die, but who are dead now anyway?

I love the media:

The duffel bag contained 7 grams of heroin packaged for sale in 297 individual bags.

7 grams of heroin constitutes a "log"? Really?!?

The powerbar I'm eating right now has more than twice that many grams of protein in it (with another 45 grams of other stuff) and I'd be really hard pressed to call it "log-like" by any stretch of the imagination. ("twig-like", perhaps)

And divvied up into 297 servings? Maybe I just don't spend enough time hanging out with junkies, but that sounds like awful small potions to me. Maybe that's why they also got him,

on charges of possession with intent to deliver a counterfeit substance

Say "YES" to War on Iraq

by Dan Savage
October 2002

"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times."

"In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."

Police chief's daughter, not mayor's daughter.
It's kind of a big story locally...
