Architecture The Next South Africa

onSound Transit, this is how you design a station:
The Midrand Station is part of Gautrain, South Africa’s future “rapid rail link between Johannesburg, Pretoria and Joburg International Airport.” The power this future railway system exerts on my imagination is the same the failed train line from Cape Town to Cairo exerted on Cecil Rhodes. Gautrain, this is the rose; dance here.
(Lee Pyne-Mercier sent the me the wonderful link.)

I don't agree. The perfect mass transit station is barely visible on the surface; a doorway, a down escalator. Fits in a row of shops. Of course, that presupposes an underground train....
Right, Chaz.
Look at that picture a little more closely - and tell me what's missing?
Right. Buildings. Other buildings. This thing is being built adjacent to a freeway in a freaking open field!
It's easy to build a big, architecturally lavish structure when there aren't any other structures within the immediate vicinity to limit your design options.
Now, how exactly again do you propose building a station that covers roughly FIVE FREAKING ACRES! - anywhere along ST's current or proposed routings?
I can imagine that building covered in graffiti with vagrants hanging outside.
@3
It's hard not to...
I'm just surprised that Charles didn't find a way to include a naked woman in that photo.
@1 - you mean a Tokyo monorail station in the burbs.
And he tried, but ECB stole all the pics.
@5
Damn it! It's raciest to imply that Chuck is misogynistic. Don't you know that?... Shame on you.
The roofline and support columns are nice. Other than that it looks like a skate rental facility for the ice rink in front of it.
@3 - the pee smell. Did you remember to imagine the pee smell?
Hmm, I feel like I've seen that roofline before... Oh wait: http://www.soundtransit.org/x1647.xml
I think I've seen it before, on "The Jetsons." Did they have Jetsons on the telly where you grew up, Charles?
