McCain is probably not shushing Obama loud enough. Fussy babies like really loud white noise; a hair drier works great. And swaddling. Got to swaddle Barack Obama if you want him to settle down.
McCain's old though. His generation was told to let them cry it out and sleep on the tummy and all that crap. And don't try to tell them different; they get all pissy if you even hint they didn't know how to take care of babies.
McCain's the one with the diaper.
Whlie the McCain attacks seem mockable to us, fact is, Obama's within the margin of error in polls in key swing states and in striking distance in others.
It all boils down to swing voters in OH, MI, PA, VA.
the McCain attacks do have the effect of shifting the media debate to is Obama a foreigner loving arrogant blah blah blah.
IOW it takes Obama off his message.
To respond Obama need to slam McCain and GOP as bringing Ms. Middle American more economic devastation and gouging by bad corporations, more deficit, moare abandonment of tradit. US ideals/Const., more letting OBL get away, etc. etc.
I'm not seeing this kind of nuts and bolts attack from Obama.
Meanwhile MR. Dick Morris is saying Obama is behind among older women. This is shocking. Of btw don't slam me for what Morris says -- it's either true or it aint' and no one hates HRC more than he does.
It seems to me the obvious solution to get OBama over the top and nail it down is...yup you guessed it....HRC for VP.
Kaine is a first term governor. Biden has no economic credentials and really isn't known and is a lousy debater and campaigner -- he didn't win one primary!
Richardson ditto and I think Obama has NV CO NM anyway.
Bayh of IN -- what a joke. We're going to win Indiana? WTF?
Why is Obama afraid he can't work with HRC? She's too powerful and scary?
Only a wuss would think he couldn't work with her.
The no. candidate with 18 million votes and lots of primary victories is the obvious choice to get that last 5% nailed down in those states we all love to hate out here. We don't want Obama to top out at 46% or to have polls where he does 5% less well on election day than what the polls showed, as ocurred in several primaries.
OK, now everyone attack HRC for being too centrist (like OBama doesn't move to center) for playing old politics of loyalty and payback (like Slog didn't praise Obama for doing the same thing with Gregoire) and for being scandal ridden (like 95% of it isn't concocted by the GOP) and for being a tough bitch who fights like hell (like this isn't what we want in a candidate/leader cuz when it's a guy we just love it).
Bonus: he becomes her boss. Don't you Clinton detesters want him in control of her??
See: Doris Goodwin, Team of Rivals, etc.
My hatred for the IOC knows no bounds. What greedy little suckers of satan's cock.
PC you and danielbennetkienneker should hang out and critique each other's ideas - they're frightfully similar.
Hey, is anyone else having trouble with Slog this morning? My "Add Your Comments" box changed from blue outline, to black outline, now it is back to blue, and when I tried to launch the comments thread for Morning News, instead of launching a new window, Internet Explorer closed entirely.
I'm surprised that ECB didn't include this story about Bush threatening access to the pill that even I am finding stupid and obnoxious.
@7- pretty old news, but yes still obnoxious.
Obama's being hysterical because of the menses. I have good information from my source on this one.
It's become obvious that the GOP's only hope for a McCain victory is to (A) raise the taxes bogeyman and (B) engage in character assassination against Obama. Hey, it worked well enough against Al Gore. Anything to avoid discussing the actual issues facing this country. It's a farce, but it just may work.
But y'know, if we are going to have a nasty, little game of character assassination, why not embrace that and go on the offensive? I was switching around the TV last night and happened upon "Larry King Live." There was right-winger Ben Stein stating as a given what a great man of character John McCain is. And there was left-winger Paul Krugman letting that statement go absolutely unchallenged.
You want to talk about character and values? John McCain cheated on his first wife, who was disabled. He ended up leaving his wife with whom he had--what? three children?--for another woman. This is the man you want to hold up as a model of all-American character and values?
I'm not saying the Obama campaign itself should play as dirty as the McCain campaign is all too happy to. But that doesn't mean everyone else who supports Obama can't.
No report on the decapitation on the Greyhound bus in Manitoba?
Wasn't sure if this was worthy enough of a tip, but here's a link to Michelle Malkin's latest, I got it originally from the National Review:
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/07/31/seattles-planet-saving-plan-jump-rope-draw-chalk-art/
Wow, @12 . . . I knew she was crazy, but the comments section in that is unbelievable! Closing streets is "dictatorial coercion"? What the fuck does that even mean?
Yes, only women are hysterical and only babies are fussy. McCain couldn't have been calling him, you know, just hysterical and fussy.
the mccain camp meant upity. he's being upity. that's the proper term for what they're upset about.
I think what McSame says Depends on how angry he is.
A lot of this stuff is just thinly veiled racism, sexism, and homophobia. Obama's uppity, and he doesn't want to bomb the whole world to smithereens without at least trying to talk it out first so he's basically a girl, and he dresses well so he must be gay. Even the conservative allergy to taxes is selective and tinged with racism: taxes to pay for police and military and roads that cater to single-occupancy SUVs are worth paying for. After all, the suburban segregated way of life is worth protecting. But all of those icky social programs that help black people are socialism. Mass transit is only used in cities, and you know who lives in cities.
There's enough small-minded bigotry that this strategy might work, but no one should mistake it for anything like a principled difference in political opinion.
Um, So Now He’s a Girl? Or a Baby? Or Something?: Obama’s being “hysterical” and “fussy,” according to McCain camp.
And this is what it takes to get Erica behind Obama. Someone accuses him of having a vagina, suddenly she's an Obamaniac.
Now here's the news item of the day that leaves me scared shitless:
Gallup Daily: Obama 45%, McCain 44%
That's the closest McCain's been in a while according to Gallup.
Responding to (un)PC @3. I wish you had as much passion and concern for the fate of your country as you apparently do for Hillary Clinton. I have no problem with Hillary as veep, but the VP speculation is just another beauty contest and a gossip-fest that continues to keep this campaign from being about actual issues.
@12
Malkin? really? wtf. Why the fuck would any body care what that little bitch thinks?
If you have to follow postings on the Far-Right the least you could do was pick someone with a little bit of intelligence.
When Malkin starts summering in Iraq outside the Green Zone is when I give a flying F what she thinks.
@19
If you want to understand unPC, realize she only cares about her beloved white race, not any country.
that housing bill is a fucking joke:
@23: My 'favorite' part is the credit card bit. And by favorite I mean 'the part that makes me want to vomit the most.'
6. Credit Card Tracking – Here’s another provision that will collect a huge amount of private information for the government. Deep inside the bill is a program requiring banks to to track, aggregate, and report information on all credit and debit card transactions to the IRS. FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey had this to say about it: “This is a provision with astonishing reach, and it was slipped into the bill just this week. Not only does it affect nearly every credit card transaction in America, such as Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, but the bill specifically targets payment systems like eBay’s PayPal, Amazon, and Google Checkout that are used by many small online businesses. The privacy implications for America’s small businesses are breathtaking.”

The Stranger was right! People can be taught! Or, maybe not.
