The news item that caught my eye this morning:
Featured front-page story in the P-I: Want to calculate a carbon footprint?
Kinda nice story actually. And a pretty useful chart of various online carbon calculators.
Not to pick on Dan Savage, but… I'd be curious what the results would be if our dear Mr. Savage plugged his jet-setting lifestyle into a few of these calculators.
Oh, and I'm picking on Dan not to quash debate the way the global warming deniers like to take personal shots at Al Gore and accuse him of "do as I say, not as I do." No, our individual energy usage is a problem for the answers are not so easy, and some of us more or less affluent folks are just more or less hypocritical than others.
@1, you are not the only one to call Dan out on his high number of airline miles he racks up.
Cressona:
what's your carbon footprint?
Have you stopped flying?
Do you live in a large house or a condo?
Do you socialize and drive around Seattle at night to visit friends?
Do you drive to go hiking?
Do you fly back East or ever go to Europe? or Asia? do you take a boat there?
Oh while we're judging:
do you volunteer at a soup kitchen? A hospice? Immigrant's aid office? Tenants' Union? At your church?
Who gives a shit if someone flies, are you against all flying now?
Do you have any idea what contributes more, flying or building a light rail system that will take 30 years to be GHG neutral?
Flying or having a nation with a billion people and factories spewing?
Please tell us all the new morality rules you favor. And how you are leading the way. And how this will get us to a better planet. Because you know, the Chinese and the Indians willc certainly emulate whatever conduct is displayed by Your Vastly Superior Moral Example..., right?
Thank you, your Moralexcellency.
I assume PC lives in Federal Way, commutes in his/her Ford Expedition to Bellevue each day and flies several times a year to New York.
So.... nothing about the Critical Mass bicyclists who beat a driver so badly he ended up with staples in the back of his head? God forbid a bicyclist does anything that's not perfect.

Way to go, assclowns. You totalled his car and didn't do yourselves any favors.
Hey PC, since you're all in the mood to ask questions today, how's about answering my questions about your history of lying? Because it looks funny to see you being all accusatory while pretending you yourself have nothing to answer for.
In defense of our back door man, cressona, some ones got to do it.
Perhaps you would prefer the opportunity to fly around and serve the socially informed and entertaiment moguls who work hard to insure that little birds are rescued from oil conglomerates sludge and kids with disenfranchised sex lives and ostricized lifestyles critiqued by influencers standing on the outside waiting for people like myself to come to the rescue and defend them so they can live another day to fight and survive your wit... even if Mr. Savage never agreed to me aligning myself once upon a time as his KATO and calling us The Savage Dans.
On the other hand, maybe you would like to spend an eternity in my shoes and fight the grime and crime of trash in the streets sorting thru the hopeless politics of poverty.
Either way it's just more infighting with the neighbors. Use the Stranger and lose your mind is what I always say.
Here here pc... lying by liars for the sake of lies in the liners is noteworthy of exceptional observances.
Capitol Hill Block Party... if I were a rich man I'd buy you all what ever you wanted.
Now go fuck something ugly and don't get it so Thom Yorke and Trent Reznor can have something to laugh about while you all get piss drunk and so stoned and I get so jealous cause I'm stupid poor stupid.
Say "YES" to War on Iraq
by Dan Savage
October 2002
"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times."
"In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."
