why is maggie gyllenhaal so unattractive?

because she's not plasticized?

How could you be so very wrong, Bellevue? I was just about to write something along the lines of how that picture gave me a very special feeling, and how come I'd never heard of that film? Will have to check it out. She is hotness personified.

What are you smoking, BA?

she looks like cameron diaz with downs. or kirsten dunst with downs. and she has those annoying triangle boobs.

I like women that arent plastic but they also shouldnt be the female versions of christopher burke.

are you also going to try and convince me that drew barrymore is attractive with her FAS face?

Bellevue Ave @5 paraphrased:

"I like women who naturally look like the mainstream ideal of supermodel beauty."

I'm not even going to acknowledge those who don't think that Maggie Gyllenhaal is attractive.

Levislade @3: She's totally hot in this movie. Also, there's lots of nudity. And, um, she acts real good, too.

I'm afraid I'm with BA on this one. I think it's the way her eyes turn down in a complex curve just like the one her mouth curls up in. And her nostrils are insipid. I've never liked her in movies, either, although I'm not sure if it's because I dislike her or her characters.

I don't know what "triangle boobs" are, though.

Mags looks hotter here than she has since Secretary.

Fnarf, you've typed a lot of ridiculous things over the years (haven't we all?), but "her nostrils are insipid" takes the bloody cake.

Now excuse me while I watch this and Secretary alone for a while . . .

BA: what's a "FAS face"?

Posted by max solomon | July 23, 2008 1:57 PM
13

please lostboy, I don't like thin, blonde, tan (bronzer), women at all. in general I can't stand anyone who has one of these features by themselves.

@12 - FAS = Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Posted by Levislade | July 23, 2008 1:59 PM

fetal alcohol syndrome.

the tiny face on the big head.

fnarf, they are boobs that are more conical than they are round. I also call them indy car or forumal 1 boobs because they remind me of the back of 60s race cars.

I can sympathize with Fnarf and BA to some extent; there is something slightly odd about Gyllenhaal's face that can be distracting, a non-cute quirkiness.

The impression I always get, though, is of the kind of attractive-in-context person that you might meet in real life, noticeably more appealing than most other people you know despite appearance quirks that become less and less conspicuous as you get to know her.

but that isn't the point of celeb crushes lostboy. i can't conceive on any circumstance where I would get to know any celeb better so I could comment on how their attractiveness has blossomed before me.

BA @13, fair enough.  I just couldn't resist the easy opening to yank your chain a little.

Posted by lostboy | July 23, 2008 2:11 PM

My chain is made of sausages and the rest of slog are meat deprived pit bulls.

I might be wrong about her breasts upon further reflection but they arent my GF's breasts which I consider works of art by the creator himself.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | July 23, 2008 2:19 PM

BA @18, maybe it's not the point for you.  For me, celeb crushes are all about what-if fantasies.

I'd suggest that fantasies about a celeb's fictional character are less far fetched, but I'm guessing you'd see it the opposite way.  Am I wrong again?

Posted by lostboy | July 23, 2008 2:21 PM

i think were on the same page, I just phrased it poorly. Celeb crushes are about what-ifs, and I dont think spending time to get to know her and see her attractiveness blossom qualifies as a what-if i'd indulge in at all.

On the other hand one of my celeb crushes involves a man, specifically christian bale. my girlfriend likes to tease me about that.

Posted by Bellevue Ave | July 23, 2008 2:25 PM
24

like, what if christian bale and I had to fight our way out of some crazy situation on a golf course? or what if christian bale and I were in command of an army of at-ats

Going on record: MG is HOT.

She's not wildly beautiful, but she's sexy as hell. Know what I mean? Kind of the anti-Kristin Davis.

@26
you mean like bella donna?

@21: BA, maybe you should link to a pic if they are as awesome as you say they are...

;)

ps - I'm with you on Bella Donna

If those were Red Envelope's two best movies, no wonder they're closing.

I wonder if this is some sort of ass kissing exercise to get the studios to allow Netflix to provide more streaming content on their website.

@5 - Lookout BA ... you're wandering into "hate crime" territory!

Wow - impressive train of thoughts going on here.

I'd like to swerve a bit and say that Sherrybaby was a pretty dire movie. MG was about the only decent thing in it. The people involved in making the film, though, were clearly way in over their heads with what(ever it was) they were trying to do. And the girl that played the daughter was so horrific (in the acting sense) that she almost brought the film to a screeching halt everytime she was on the screen. I understand that not every child can have wonderful presence and acting chops - but this girl was beyond belief bad, I'm sorry.

Oh, and OK, just to fit in here - I'd bang the hell out of Maggie.

Her nostrils ARE insipid. They're puffy and turned up at the point where they join the face. It's an awful nose, worse than Meg Ryan's.

Posted by Fnarf | July 23, 2008 4:24 PM
34

Fnarf, you seem to feel about noses the way I feel about tail light design on cars.

I'm not sure this is healthy for either of us.

Posted by lostboy | July 23, 2008 4:35 PM
35

Lostboy, let me put it in terms you can understand, then: Maggie Gyllenhall's nose is the Pontiac Aztek of Hollywood noses.

I think Insipid Nostrils will be the name of my next band.

Maggie G is sexy as hell.

Fnarf @35, there was no call for that kind of vile obscenity.

I think the weirdest thing about her is that if you block out everything else, you will notice that she and her brother have the same face. Creepy.

Posted by Greg | July 23, 2008 5:39 PM

I think she's quite attractive (mostly based on her role in The Secretary--I may not feel the same had I not seen that). Still, I love WWTDD's nickname for her: Sad Cartoon Turtle.

sherrybaby was a fine film. i especially liked the non-evil native american, probably because i was expecting him to be an evil native american.

she was very charming in Stranger Than Fiction.

some other MG photos:
http://www.petite-coquette.co.uk/2007/09/05/393-agent-provocateur-lingerie

there are other/better films that Red Envelope distro'ed, although the list depends on whether you're talking about just the theatrical stuff or also the dvd stuff.

also, in sherrybaby her character has a drug problem, so MG is allowed to look a bit "off" in photos for the film.
