That’s how fucked they are

Please stop with this "We're going to win" meme. I thought after W's first 4 years, ANYONE could beat him, even John Kerry.

Guess what? W & Rove made it close enough to steal again. So why don't we approach this like we are going to lose unless everyone does everything right? I just don't like this sense of security. Not after the last four fucking years.

The guy in the peapod costume lurking in the background is pretty hilarious.

Lovely. Now will someone please make a mini-documentary about the guy in the peapod costume?

This is staged. Peapod gives it away.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.*

*unless you're a little old lady with a sign.

please, DNC, give this woman 15 minutes at the podium in Denver to tell her story so the non-netroots can hear her story and realize what shits the GOP is.

Coincidence that it was in Denver? The same sick city that has enacted BSL under
K K Knelson and killed more than 1500 innocent dogs?

I think not.

Bush, McCain: Two peas in a pod. Shoulda thrown him out.

Also, Fnarf @ 2, hilarious!

What good is sitting alone in your room? come to the cabaret minus any agenda except to realize you're in Denver, Dorothy, and not in Nazi Germany. Unrulies will be sanitized first, then concentrated. Sound familiar? What's on TV tonight?

@8 (this comment from the TL)

"the first amendment is subject to limits at private events, even those held in public spaces when they're leased for limited private uses.

I don't know the terms of the agreement between the McCain campaign and the owners of the meeting venue, and I don't know the relevant laws in the city of Denver. But even if it is a public property (which the librarian says it is), the campaign is likely leasing the space by contract which I believe entitles it to establish whatever reasonable (and otherwise legal) access and participation rules it chooses for what is now its own--technically-speaking--"private" event. Those would be subject to the terms of the contract and could not violate other relevant city statues and rules of use. But the first amendment is not in full force once this becomes a private event. @8 they can keep her out of the event if it is private, but they should not be able to throw her off of public property as long as she is not a danger. That is a first amendment issue.

I would be interested to see how her court date goes. It was open to the PUBLIC it was PUBLIC property. I am so confused.... I don't think the ticket and "arrest" is going to hold up in court.

However stoopid, I'm willing to believe this was the work of the Secret Service and not of McCain or THE REPUBLICANS. It makes sense that the Secret Service feels they have an easier time making sure a prominent politician does not get assassinated if everyone is sitting down with their hands folded on their laps. More to discuss but we'll leave it at that.

I don't so much think the problem was the content of the sign as much as the fact that it was a sign. I know that at most such events you are not allowed to bring in signs as they can be a security risk and just tend to be disruptive.

I was in high school in 1968, and I attended a speech by Bobby Kennedy in the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. I was for Gene McCarthy, and I brought a sign saying so. A friend brought a Humphrey sign. No one thought anything of it. Some of you kids may not be old enough to remember when we had democracy in this country.

PS. You used to be able to walk into an airport, pay cash for a ticket, never show ID, and never be searched. We called it "freedom". Too bad the terrorists won.

Not all republicans are supportive of Bush, therefore they are totally ashamed of their political affiliation. We get it.

Does that mean that every Democrat has to be proud of someone like Rev. Al in order to be proud of their party?

I agree that that came across as really staged/scripted/fake. I suspect it's more likely to be someone's stab at a viral ad than any authentic occurrence.

Because Rev. Al has been the president and leader of our party for the last eight years--right?

@20

"disruptive"?

That's EXACTLY the kind of namby-pamby shit that's killing free speech in this country. Oh heavens! So untidy and unsettling! Can't you go do that in a fenced-in Free Speech Zone?

@16: It will never stand up in court and it's not supposed to. They scared her off by giving her a ticket and threatening to escalate it with an arrest and being taken to jail. If she were hard-core she would have gone limp and forced them to carry her out screaming!
