"Big Gay Sketch Show" and "Blue Collar TV" could do the exact same sketch, and the message conveyed would be wildly different.

The problem presented in the Snickers commercial is that the creator's intentions aren't explicitly clear- Thus you have Gays offended because it's perceived to be homophobic, and Homophobes offended because it's perceived to be homoerotic.

I tend to think the ad falls on the side of homophobia- not just because I'm a gay man, but because they chose to include footage of athletes reactions of disgust on their website... footage that no doubt prolongs the negative gay image to a new generation of impressionable fans.

I thought the ad was sort of borderline like everyone else, kind of offensive, kind of cute, and to be honest agreed with tiffany @10 more than anyone. But if you follow the link it shows the rest of the ads, which are way worse than chest-hair-ripping. In one the "quick, do something manly" leads to beating the shit out of each other with a wrench. Which might be closer to reality and is way more fucked up.
