My only concern is the same for the movie as it was with the tv show: They absolutely can't let it become so much of an "in joke" that new-comers can't follow along... that's basically what sank the show in the first place besides, of course, Fox's abysmal treatment marketing-wise.

What do we say always comes first?
Breakfast?
NO, the Arrested Development movie.

This easily moves to the number 1 spot on the most anticipated event of MY LIFE.

BA, how about the Family Guy movie? Not the Star Wars one, the first one.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I know I should trust them, because they've been right so many times before, but I am afraid.

@ 6 - the whole show is an in-joke. Isn't that the point?

@ 10 - the first Family Guy movie was just three Family Guy episodes.

And this isn't really a confirmation. This is just Tambor saying he thinks it's going to happen, which is what Bateman has been doing forever.

Can I buy tickets now? I can't wait the ultra-deluxe unrated extended multi-disc DVD.

As far as the movie having to be designed for newbies, fuck them if they can't rent the DVDs. There are a lot less discs to watch than Sex In The City!

Can anyone think of any other TV shows adapted to film? I'm only coming up with Serenity/Firefly, SATC, and the Simpsons. All of which turned profits.

And while the AD movie might be just an hour and a half of in-jokes, there are thousands of rabid fans who will see it again and again, thus ensuring profit. AD has definitely spread beyond its original audience and was a total word-of-mouth show. More people will see the movie than watched the TV series.

I like the show, but I think two straight hours of it would be tedious.

@17 - star trek, get smart, starsky & hutch, dukes of hazard - all adapted long after they went off the air. i'm sure there are lots more. depending on how you want to define it, you could also include snl spinoffs (coneheads, blues brothers, a night at the roxbury, etc), superhero films (hulk, batman) that were preceded both by comic books & tv shows.

@16 Starsky & Hutch, Get Smart, Maverick, Miami Vice, Mission:Impossible, The Mod Squad, The Brady Bunch, Alvin & The Chipmunks, Scooby-Doo, Star Trek, Transformers, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, movies based on SNL sketches, Mr. Show, South Park...the list goes on.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed they don't fuck this up like they did the newest Futurama movie.
