came into my store the other day. he was not only really cool, but made me understand why he's funny. could have been good to see him onstage at something impromptu.

He was amazing. He did a great set, then got everyone to sing Happy Birthday to Ross Parsons (a local comedian who just turned 21).And he talked with me about Popeye for about 10 minutes, which endeared him to me forever.

He's going to be in town for the next five weeks, and he wants to do a longer set next time.

(still nursing comedy boner)

I don't believe Robin Williams has ever made a funny live action film. He had a nice scene in "Shakes the Clown" though. In 30 years, that's somethin'.

Dude, regardless of his recent (last 15 years) of not putting out a good movie, I'd still wanna kick it with him.

maybe if hadn't been phoning in the same schtick for 20 years, I'd think he was worth seeing- there's his preacher character, his "street brotha' character- it was old 15 years ago and it ain't getting younger.

You're all right and you're all wrong.

Williams WAS brilliant and revolutionary when he started but the comedy world caught up with him and he hasn't changed his schtick for 30 years. A whole shitload of shitacular movies hasn't helped the rep, either.

He was very, very good in Moscow on the Hudson, though.

And, he is a legend.

There is a huge difference between his films and when is cutting loose on stage. He would be the first to admit he has not made the best choices with some of his movies.

Seeing him on stage is a completely different situation. He is a force of nature. I have seem a LOT of comedians, and no one does what he does.

I don't mean to go all fan boy (too late!), but was inspiring to see someone of his stature come down to a rinky-dink club and perform just for the fun of it, and be completely approachable, gracious and self-depreciating to every drooling comedian/audience member (like me) that wanted to talk to him or have their picture taken with him.

I think the next five weeks are going to be an amazing time for the Seattle comedy scene.

Maybe it helps to remember that at his strongest he was an amazing comic, and not
unlike Jonathan Winters he created an extremely unique voice that influenced a shit-boat full of young comedians. Also, not unlike Winters, he got older and comedy evolved (partly because of him) and younger audiences don't pay as much attention to him.
With that in mind, every disaffected douchebag that finds it fashionable to slag him as a hack should remember that Interpol wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Bauhaus, and a lot of comics wouldn't be here if it wasn't for guys like him.

Yeah, we get he's been in shitty films. So has Steve Martin, but that doesn't delineate
his work as a comic. He also won an Oscar, and
Hook was directed by Spielberg so I guess I don't get your point? Especially considering
you still didn't have anything to say about his stand-up??
