uh, dumbfucks, that situation would be ALL situations.

also, Laura and Cai: if you're open enough to want to hold hands at a public event and outraged enough to complain publicly when you can't, then it's a little sad that you're not open enough to use your last names when you complain about discrimination.

Recently, I was discriminated against at a "neighborhood-friendly" Capitol Hill bar. I complained (by phone and then by a personally dropped off letter to the manager) of it and their management has yet to get back to me.

Two lesbians enjoying each other's company at the True Colors concert. All around them, other gay, lesbian, and straight couples are doing the same. During the concert, a security guard from in front of the security barrier flashes a light in the direction of the two women and makes a "cut it out" sign across his neckline. The women, confused, look around to see if the security guard is gesturing at them, or someone else. Two rows behind them, they see a man taking pictures of the concert, and remember that camera equipment isn't allowed in the venue. They turn back around and continue to enjoy the show and each other's company.

this whole 'news story' seems to be totally blown out of proportion because of lop-sided reporting. have you had a security guard at a concert flash a flashlight in your direction before at a concert, and you mistakenly thought it was directed at you? i sure have. was it me? nope...its the guy a row or two back smoking pot, or the girl beside me taking pictures when its not allowed. it seems that this is more like a classic case of crying wolf without confirmation. Then, by writing a lambasting story about this topic prior to actual confirmation/denial by Qwest, you automatically make them out to be the bad guy in the court of public opinion. Because of this, we will never actually know the real truth of a situation, rather just this Montel Williams-esque soap opera.

Any quotes from the security guard? Any witnesses? I don't buy it.

I mean seriously, this is Seattle, it was an event to “raise awareness about the discrimination the GLBT community still faces," rainbows, pink triangles all around... I just don't buy that what they may think happened possibly could have happened.

They hired a lawyer. For what? To what ends? If this did happen as reported, just let it lie, the guy's a douchebag; a lawyer won't change that.

Just because there was no immediate defense or explanation for what happened, doesn't mean there isn't a reasonable explanation.

To All: Consider a possibility other than homophobia.

Besides, what would Laura and Cai rather hear?
"We're sorry; we will take steps to ensure this never happens"
Or
"No we didn't! You guys are imagining it. He was making sure the girl 2 rows back stopped taking pictures".

This is very important to me, because Qwest, has been one of the most progressive companies in promoting diversity and supporting GLBT employees.

For example, in the late 80's, Qwest in partnership with EAGLE, worked to implement Domestic Partner benefits, which officially took place August 15, 1997. Qwest was one of the first corporations to allow us to have the same rights as any other employee. We also support the Lifelong AIDS Alliance and have a Qwest team in the October 4th, 2008 AIDS Walk. The list of other Qwest supported initiatives goes on and on. Qwest also already has mandatory diversity training for all employees that covers acceptance and understanding of sexual orientation and the GLBT community.
