Architecture Traumwelt

onMinutes after closing my eyes last night, a city and a television tower appeared.
The television tower had babies crawling up and down it.
The babies were naked.
Th babies had holes for faces.
Just before my finger entered a hole, I awoke. A long and loaded train was rattling on the tracks.
My dream has a debt. That debt is owed to Christin Clatterbuck.

No more Welsh rarebit before bed!
I saw a huge one of these in Prague back in 2000
How does copyright work on the web? Seriously, can anyone use anything by anyone without prior permission? Or does image and idea use base itself on non existent enforcement?
Charles, I like your posts but they do seem derivative, which from an academic is interesting.
I love Communist-built TV towers. And babies crawling on them just makes them better.
I'm not a huge fan of the tower or the babies, but I do like some of David Cerny's other stuff.
This horse was a favorite of mine when I lived in Prague. It's a play on this original in Wenceslas Squre. It's also non-fucking-creepy.
That baby is so my new desktop and screen saver. I love it.
Radio Free Europe
Remember Radio Free Europe? This was the US financed radio network that broadcast real “news” to those living behind the Iron Curtain during the cold war. Its headquarters was established in Munich in 1949, and began transmitting its first broadcasts to Czechoslovakia on July 4, 1950. The key goal of Radio Free Europe was to provide “democratic” information to the Soviet Satellite nations. Moscow didn’t like this very much.
So, years later (1980ish) Moscow began building this, what is known as the Zizkov TV and radio tower. It was initially meant to jam RFE broadcasts from Munich. However, by the time it was finished communism was dead.
Ironically, Radio Free Europe has since moved its headquarters to Prague and is located in the old Communist building which used to house the old Parliament back in the day. After communism fell, funding was cut for Radio Free Europe. In a sign of gratitude for the broadcasts during the cold war, the current Czech government rents space to Radio Free Europe for 1 CZK a year – or about six US cents.
Today Radio Free Europe broadcasts “news” into the Islamic world. It has recently been threatened by Al-Qaeda. Note in the photo that the streets around the building have been cordoned off and guards are posted due to the threat. As a result, plans are underway to move it out to the suburbs, where RFE’s building can be more easily safeguarded.
Their faces look like USB ports.
That is the one in Prague, but I don't remember the babies. How oddly creepy.
amazing art. Czech surrealism.
I remember seeing that baby tower in Prague in 2005. It was creepy then, and even creepier to see the babies in detail.
*shudders*
But on a side note, I'd kill babies to be able to go back to Prague and live there for a while. By far the best beer in the world (to me) and one of the best places I have ever travelled.
I love the Prague TV Tower. Oddest thing ever.
I have about 200 pictures of these babies. I found them pretty fascinating when I was there.
@11: I agree... Definitely one of the top places on my list of places I've visited :)
The Tower Babies is a good name for a punk act from Olympia
