Seriously, if it's "rudimentary" why are you using it? Why are you shitting on your magnificent cover art tradition? Not that your covers have been any good since the 70s, but still -- you're the ones doing the bragging, why don't you live up to it, instead of this abortion?

Yeah, their math is a bit off. They missed the mark by over 7 and a half years.

I look at magazines like Esquire as advertising-soaks, that exist to absorb the kinds of ads I don't want to look at. If they go under, then more of the websites I'm interested in are going to pick up 500k Flash monstrosities instead. If I was dictator it would not only be illegal to use Flash in an advertisement; I would go so far as to institute the death penalty for even asking the question "could we use Flash for this?"

Are they serious with "The 21st Century Begins Now" or is that well-executed satire on a magazine cover?

Magazines need to embrace what's great about print, not waffle in the middle.

Though, @1, it actually was cool when they used that greeting card sound thing a few years back in Entertainment Weekly, promoting a Star Wars box set or something — you open it and hear the sound of Darth Vader breathing.
