No More Terror

What? First North Korea, now Nelson Mandela:

Former South African President Nelson Mandela is to be removed from U.S. terrorism watch lists under a bill President Bush signed Tuesday.

Mandela and other members of the African National Congress have been on the list because of their fight against South Africa’s apartheid regime, which gave way to majority rule in 1994.

Apartheid was the nation’s system of legalized racial segregation that was enforced by the National Party government between 1948 and 1994.

The bill gives the State Department and the Homeland Security Department the authority to waive restrictions against ANC members.

Good heavens, it’s only a matter of time before Bin Laden himself is removed from this shrinking list of terrorists.

Hmm, this looks worse for Clinton than it does for Bush. Why the fuck weren't the ANC removed back in the 90's?

Let's see, what other noteworthy persons and/or organizations have been labeled as "terrorists" by the US government for essentially resisting oppression and/or occupation by a foreign power and/or a neglectful domestic government?

Let's see: the Black Panthers, Hezbollah, Hamas...

I... ah.. made sure to vote against the... ah... non-binding 1986 House resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, in which the ah... Democrat Party also wanted to recognize the socialist African National Congress, which was seen as terrorist organization by our... ah... friends in Pretoria.

Yeah, how come Mandela was on the list and Mugabe isn't? And Mbeki should be on the list for not doing anything about it. Anything. I guess it's because even though he slaughtered his own people, at least he's not as bad as bush.

Remove Mandela from terrorist watch list? Check.

Add Mandela to Secret Muslim list? Check.

Is this the end-of-term ass-kissing that we typically see?

Bush:

"Hey! Mandy my man, how ya doin'? How's life as a nonterrorist? Wasn't that funny back when you were one? Hah, yeahhhh.

—Oh, no, no, you don't have to thank me. So what's this I hear about you needing a speaking partner...?"

Jim McDermott was on this list too, a couple years ago. Oh, wait. That was 'somebody else who happened to have the same name.' Right.

Whenever I think humans can't sink any lower, I'm reminded of Mandela. The very best of the human race. Peace be to Mandela!
