Why quick?
Better for Mr. Weiner to have a long life -- and no audience.
So he never quite understood that whole "hey pick on someone your own size" thing, huh?
That photo is heartbreaking!
He's a douche but I can see Asberger's becoming overdiagnosed for every kid who gets excited about anything.
@5, glad we have somebody as well-informed as you to make a judgment as to how Asperger's Disorder gets diagnosed and how often.
"Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot."
Shouldn't he just take his own advice?
@amp: that's three things and it might be complicated. He can just start with "Stop acting like a putz."
Good call, WTF@6.
Cancer wouldn't make him eat his words. Alzheimer's would be more poetic.
You know, for a guy who seems to be extremely self-centered and lacking in empathy, who has difficulty comprehending shades of meaning and common manners, it's very presumptuous of him to tell people with autism-spectrum disorders to 'straighten up' and 'act like a man.'
I'm skeptical of such things as ADD and ADHD. But having one relative with autism, that disorder seems to me to be too serious and debilitating not to take seriously. As usual, Savage/Weiner is a scumsucker.
Michael Savage says much worse things than this practically every week. And his sponsors are just now becoming disgusted with him?
@6: I didn't say it was currently diagnosed that way, just that it's likely in the future. Remember, ADD wasn't always a catchall diagnosis for kids who dared to misbehave in school.
Looking at the media and society, people are already seeing Asberger's in every socially awkward kid who's really into a subject. One could argue that it's just a matter of time before they start doping the quiet kids to be more "social".
#14 - it's "Asperger's" syndrome -- not Asberger's -- your comments and misspelling speak to the fact that you obviously do not know what you are talking about...
@12: So you take autism seriously because you happen to have an autistic relative? But those other disorders that nobody in your life suffers from? Fuck 'em.
@14 - your continuing to talk despite your ignorance astounds me.
-How can you guess the future when you don't even know what's happening today?
-AD/HD still isn't a "catch-all" diagnosis. Take a peek at the DSM-IV to see what it takes to get diagnosed.
-Who are these people seeing Asperger's Disorder in every socially awkward kid? I guess "one could argue" any damn thing they want, but they're still going to come out sounding like an idiot if they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
@16,
No, but I've seen enough people dismiss energetic kids with a lack of discipline as having ADD or ADHD. I'm skeptical about how many of those kids actually have those disorders. Being easily distracted doesn't equal having a disorder. Autism is a hell of a lot worse and I've yet to see any evidence of it being overdiagnosed or of adults claiming autism in a case where a kid is merely behaving badly.
@18: Funny you would say Savage/Weiner is a scumsucker, and yet you sound just like him in your AD/HD analysis.
add and adhd are total bullshit. anyone "diagnosed" with that shit just needs to grow up. Autism and add/adhd aren't even in the same ballpark. add/adhd are created for the benefit of the drug companies to sell more drugs to middle class america where each unique kid who fails can blame the problem on biology instead of where it belongs, with the parenting skills.
Mr. Cruise @20, ladies and gentlemen.
Pyschiatry is an exact science! And you should have faith it it, ye skeptics.
Nobody's giving Mr. Savage any credit. He didn't recommend beating these children until they behaved, did he? I don't know for sure about him, but I can guarantee you that a lot of his listeners would prescribe that cure in a heartbeat. Gots ta whip the dayvuhl outta that boy. Or, you know, shake'em really good.
