Lott:"“I am a grateful guy, and I will never forget it.” " Presumably McCain didn't forget either.
Wow, even the "maverick" plays the "new politics" of "payback" and IOU which we celebrated Gregoire and Obama for playing.
What a stunning proof of the shrewdness and "smaerts" of our candidate, Obama, to find that his techniques are so widely emulated. Maybe this whole "vaof bank" thing can spread to pretty much all politicians!
Or even, you and your friends! You know, like if someone helps you in your garden, you might "return" the "favor" through an unspoken "exchnage" -- you don't need a written IOU either!
Wow. I'm going to go try that, too!!
Meanwhile I hope Slog kleeps us posted on this new spreading "new politics" phenomenon.
I think I even saw it in the Mongol movie, where Temudgin gave a fur or something to his blood brother or distant relative or something -- and then his relative helped him out in a war!!!!
racially insensitive remarks huh? as i recall trent lott essentially lamented the fall of forced segregation. thats a little beyond 'insensitive', it's more like praising hitler while touring auschwitz...
Good God, Republicans suck. How can they even stand to look at themselves in the mirror?
Didn't John McCain adopt Strom Thurmond's black love child?
We won't support ball-less NO-Bama and will re-defeat him in November!!!
Here's a fun one that's a lot more recent: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_07/014133.php
To be fair, Lott remarked that Strom Thurmond would have made a great President in 1948 (at Strom’s birthday party/retirement event) who was running on the ‘State’s Rights’ party opposing desegregation and therefore by inference was racially insensitive. (Thurmond only got 7% of that vote.)
Lott immediately apologized.
So considering the race card banter being constantly volleyed by the likes of Imus, Rev.Jackson, Rev. Wright, and Michelle Obama, McCain was accurate in saying that Lott had been treated unfairly.
I think clintonsarmy just keeps that response in a text file on her desktop, probably labelled it I_reject_reality.doc. Maybe she's super L337 and wrote a script that auto-posts it. It would be clever if it weren't retarded. I'm not trying to feed the trolls, because I 100% intend to not answer any follow up.
Oh and PC = susanUNPC = possibly clinton's army. I'm still working with the Kremlin on that last one.
@7,
No, he said the country would have been better off if Thurmond had been elected president. It was a clear dog whistle: if those uppity negroes hadn't demanded equal rights, everything would be perfect. Republicans have been pulling that shit for decades and Lott was one of the few stupid enough to spell it out so clearly that it couldn't be ignored.
@1 You're right of course. You help someone out and can typically expect some help in return. However, when you help someone out who stands in opposition to your own moral code (say, by supporting an obvious racist scumbag) because of what you think they can do for you that's where he crossed the line.
Let's say the KKK owns land next to my house that I want. I help the KKK out with, let's say, getting permits for their latest rally because they'll probably give me that land in return. Is that an understandable you wash my back I'll wash yours relationship? Yes. Is it still morally reprehensible? Absolutely.
