African American jockeys have a long and prestigious history that was quashed and largely forgotten, like so many other accomplishments between reconstruction and the civil rights movement. So completely forgotten that most people can only think of a "lawn jockey" as a lampoon, as in this case. Some misguided PC people try to correct the offense by painting them white. if you're going to do anything, Ithink it would be best to take them down.

As in similar cases, there is a movement to "take back" the image of the black jockey as a positive role model. Unlike some examples, like the ridiclous "whore" from the pages of the Stranger, this one seems to have more merit.
