I would
You straight dudes are kinky as FUCK.
I'd be up for it.
sweet idea.
I might... but it's questionable if I would have enough time or motivation to really devote to it. It's been about 4 or 5 years since I did that stuff, or even followed any sports with any degree of seriousness.
Every day I find a new reason to hate you, Spangenthal-Lee.
Yes.
But there's like what, 5 football fans on Slog?
I'm game.
Sorry, but that photo nearly made me lose my lunch!
OUCH!
We won't support ball-less Eli WOMAN-ning and will re-defeat him in February!!!
Huh - from what's been going up here lately I'd expect to see an all-Slogger fantasy men's gymnastics team ... oh wait, wrong kind of fantasy ...
I would have to care a lot more about football for that, sorry.
Me!
I am interested
I have my Guardian team already picked, but I think that's the wrong kind of football.
I don't know how to participate in a fantasy league. Do I have the right chromosomes for it and are fantasy league virgins welcome?
Hmmm...kind of on the fence. I'm a huge football fan, but maybe too huge of a football fan, and might spend waaaay too much time on something like this (which is why I've avoided fantasy leagues up to this point). I would, however, definitely be interested in a Slog Happy-style football watching meetup with the other 9 football fans on Slog.
I totally would love to play Fantasy Football, but I choose Arsenal.
...
oh, you mean that bastardized game called "football" here?
Never mind.
PopTart, you pick players for your team and get points against other teams based on the stats in each game.
I'm interested as long as it's wheelchair friendly.
Will, the joke's already been made and it wasn't particularly funny the first time.
Thanks for playing.
Jonah, are you surprised that Will repeated a stale joke as if we forgot to laugh the first time?
Anyway, Hernandez, you're partially right about the obsession part. the good news is that it only happens saturday through monday. The one really good aspect about FF is that it gets you watching games you wouldn't normally care about like some AFC south matchup.
Hell, I'll be game. The FMT can help me out, as he is sucessful on the leagues he has been on. And you'll need a better male/female ratio.
;)
I'd do it...
Hah hah, Abby, Will in Seattle supports your ARSENAL! Priceless!
Somewhere in London, there are dozens of English people claiming to be fans of the Arizona Cardinals or Tamba Bay Bucs or something. They don't really understand football, nor do they even watch games, but this fanship pisses off their friends and makes them seem more cultured.
I am making this up, but it's about as logical as WiS or Abby cheering for a team representing an area they have no connection to, playing a sport they don't understand, and will never see live.
@joykiller
You win this discussion.
Oh Jesus, I didn't even notice the foot. I was staring at the ass.
I've seen Premier League football live, joykiller, and I understand it a lot better than you understand much of anything at all. I don't know how many times Abby's seen Arsenal play, but I know she's seen her German team Monchengladbach? Werder Bremen? I can't remember. WiS, I'll give you that one.
I actually have been to an Arsenal game, back when I was 16, Fnarf, you ignorant slut.
I have no idea about the German teams, wasn't following them much, pretty much only paid attention to the English, French, Italian, and Spanish teams for a while.
Fuck football. It all about money...
Rugby FTW!!!!
Hertha BSC, Fnarf (which makes people laugh), but I do like Werder Bremen, as they're a team where even the defenders get hat-tricks. And Diego is a delight to watch, so I plan to enjoy him until he inevitably moves to a team I hate.
@15: considering I spent my youth playing soccer, I have much more of a connection to it than I do to American football, which I never played, have never seen live, and don't understand. And, if hazily-remembered comments in Guardian blogs are anything to go by, there are probably a few dozen American football fans in London (and far more basketball fans, but they like basketball in Europe). It's very possible that they're as odd as me about their non-dominant sport choices, and also that they picked their teams while studying in the US. To each their own, really.
Fantasy sports. Why?
The only thing that matters in sport are the drama of the game and the outcome. Statistics represent nothing, mean nothing, are nothing.
You might as well just sample from a collection of probability distributions that... well, THAT might be interesting...
@25: Oh yes, Joykiller, soccer is sooooo hard to understand. It just boggles my AMERICAN mind! Oh lordy!! I can't take it! Do they score home-runs in soccer? I JUST DON'T KNOW!
It's also not like we have this thing called 'the TV' and 'the internet tubes' as to watch said 'games' (or are they matches? friendlies? god I am just some dumb american girl ... what do I know!?)
It's also not like we can travel and live abroad and get attached to a team overseas. Because, like, no american has ever done that. At. All. EVER.
And as an aside, I love curling. I haven't seen a live match, but I have played it and I watch it (on the TeeVee) when I can. But maybe I just DON'T GET IT. Can you tell me if that is the case sir? KTHXBYE.
@32 You don't get it. it's about correctly predicting which players will do well when.
Curling is great fun. That's where they ought to hold Slog Happy, at the Granite Curling Club open house! Gotta wait til winter though.
If we went curling, my little brother would be extremely jealous. Count me in!
Er, and my earlier comment was supposed to be to 25, not to 15. Sorry, PopTart! I can't read numbers today, it happens on occasion.

Costs money. Do you think we could get 25 sloggers to pay $20 plus instructors and bartender fee (they drink like maniacs there) and food?
Rugby and Curling are cool too. But my only real connection to American Football was watching the Swarthmore team lose home games back when I was a kid. Maybe that's why I don't find football that interesting ... plus the field is way too short.
Curling is fun, and all you really need is a good sweater to play it.
i like football, just not fantasy football.
but i would start a fantasy curling league.
OK. Fantasy curling league it is.
So, how do we do that - anyone want to roll a Facebook app?
I'm in for fantasy American Football. And don't hate the players, hate the game, people . . .
Feh, rugby is for Nancy-boys.
Now, hurling - that's a MANLY sport!
