Legislative Race Updates

posted by on July 28 at 13:14 PM

Democrats Gerry Pollet and Scott White, two candidates for state House from North Seattle’s 46th legislative district, have received a dual endorsement from Seattle City Council Member Nick Licata and former council member Peter Steinbrueck, the Politicker is reporting. Both Licata and Steinbrueck endorsed White before Pollet got into the race.

And tomorrow night, the Seattle Municipal League is hosting a forum with the three candidates—Democrats Reuven Carlyle and John Burbank and Republican Leslie Bloss—who are seeking the state House seat in the 36th District. The forum is at 7 pm
at the Nordic Heritage Museum auditorium, 3014 NW 67th Street.

I thought they got a dual endorsement from the King County Dems too.

Yes, both Scott and Gerry were endorsed by the KCDCC last Tuesday night.

The KCDCC meeting last Tuesday was utterly ridiculous with its series of dual and triple endorsements.

I mean, really?, isn't the whole point of endorsements to be helping people decide who the better candidate is? If party folks can't make a decision on who they think is better, how is the average voter supposed to decide?

Imagine if the Muni League, SEAMEC, The Stranger, and others just decided not to actually choose or rate people.

You think voters are going to take the time to educate themselves on all of the candidates?

Oh Micky, no, the point of endorsements is to endorse well-qualified candidates worthy of endorsements, and thus direct district organizations which have not endorsed yet that they should reconsider them.

It's also to say to voters "these are real Dems".

But then, just ask Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Terry Bergeson why she didn/t get endorsed by the KC Dems ...

Yeah, both White and Pollett were endorsed. A two-thirds vote was required. White was overwhelmingly endorsed by a vote of something like 40 to 1. Pollett squeeked by with a vote of something like 16 to 7.
