…but it’s still sad. RIP, Estelle Getty.

She was like the only old person in the world who didn't need to die.

Interestingly enough, that's a photo of her PRETENDING to be elderly, as she was in her early '60s when she played her 80-something character on The Golden Girls.

In Stephen Hawkings' Updated and Expanded Edition of The Illustrated A Brief History of Time, page 7 has this to say...

" As far as Kepler was concerned, elliptical orbits were merely an ad hoc hypothesis, and a rather repugnant one at that, because ellipese were clearly less perfect thatn circles. "

I am continuing on my let's all jump on the Al Franken for Presidentialeditor-missives today because I truly love Ann Coulter.

All four of the Golden Girls cast are/were hard-ass, brassy ladies. RIP Sophia!

Though my fundamentalist Christian parents forbade me from watching "The Dirty Old Ladies," I could sneak in episodes when they weren't in the room, keeping the remote handy for a quick-change. For all of Sophia's fireworks, her best moments were when she was tender with her brassy daughter Dorothy. Even Bea Arthur needed love and tenderness sometimes. Rest in peace, Ms. Getty.

I agree with Bub at 15: The moments when Sophia got all maternal and Italian with Dorothy were always so fucking sweet, and underscored by the perpetual visual joke of their mother-daughter relationship, in which viewers were silently reminded that once upon a time, Bea Arhur came out of Estelle Getty's vagina.

Oh, why couldn't it have been Vicki Lawrence?

hey schmader..
bea arthur couldn't have possibly come out of estelle getty's vagina because bea arthur
( b.May 13, 1922) was OLDER than estelle getty (b.July 25, 1923)
i thought everybody knew that.
why do i know that?

Hi Riz! I was just talking about within the world of the show, wherein the character played by Bea Arthur presumably came out of the vagina of the character played by Estelle Getty--who miraculously lived.

Picture it: Capitol Hill, 2001. I am the token straight guy at Thanksgiving dinner. After several bottles of wine were consumed one of my host's guests began recreating scenes from the Golden Girls. The best was from the episode in which Betty White's character was dating a little person and brought him home for dinner. Blanche comes out of the kitchen carrying an appetizer tray, asks "Shrimp?", and without saying a word or missing a beat, turns right around and returns to the kitchen completely mortified. As I watched this reenactment I thought "I could sleep with a guy and it wouldn't be as gay as this..."
