Blech.... I sort of liked this video clip and he made some good points, but I'm sooooo tired of "religion" meaning "fundamentalist western religion" in rants like this. How many religions don't have anything to do with the shit this guy was talking about. Here's my small list: Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Jainism. Hell even a lot of Abrahamic relgions don't share the ideology he kept on reffering to; let's see: Bahai'i, Sikhism.... Really, enough already! "Religion" is a very broad term that includes way more variety than these guys ever tell you.

This reminds me of Catch-22. Yossarian takes a similar stand to this guy, and his athiest girlfriend gets really upset. "That's not the God I don't believe in! The God I don't believe in is loving and kind!"

@ 6Look at his web site and other posts. I think a lot of it is her disillusionment with the at the LOUDEST of all religious establishments and how they inevitably desire to make hell a special place on earth. In one post he complains about "religion" in how most of us are force fed it comes in two parts. Where you don't get the salvation and feeling of peace in the universe without the unquestioning servitude to some other deity or more often than not the clergy.

His secularism post is great. He points out that the POPE was griping AGAINST secularism because it was a threat to religion. More correctly put, it's a threat to HIS religion and place of power. And so forth and so on ...

At the end of the day, I know spiritual people, I know religious people. I know very very few religious AND spiritual people.

@8 - Yeah, thanks for the reply. Like I said I like the video clip, and I like the humor of guys like George Carlin and Bill Maher. I just wish people would preface their rants with a more specific target.

Everyone should try everything once except for Morris Dancing, Cheese Rolling, Incest, and the Church of England, oh and sex with the queen, yeah, didn't really need to add that.

@6/9 - Yeah, because Hinduism's perfectly rational, and treats all people with respect (y'know, even women and gays), and has never been used as an excuse to kill people to consolidate power. And the Dali Lama was selected as the Buddhist leader based on merit, and as ruler of Tibet in free, democratic elections.

Primitive superstitious hogwash is primitive supertitious hogwash, regardless of what compass point it comes from.

I think he's twisted. Hell is the imagination of man as is "God" and religion. It's all to minipulate people, create fear, and GET THEIR MONEY. He makes some stupid assumptions. I think he's trying to promote religion as a guise. He uses religious words that are a giveaway to his "beliefs".

@11- You totally missed my point. I never said the religions I refferenced were "better", I just said that they were, in fact, religions. The way most people rant, you'd think that the only religions that exist are Judaism, Christianity and Islam. There's way more than just heaven and hell, and G-d, and original sin. Many religions don't have any of those concepts.
