Books How Not to Sell a Book

Okay, I know that lots of authors are appearing in book trailers. But, really: if you can’t bring at least a QVC-type level of professionalism to the video, maybe you shouldn’t appear in your own book trailer.

does not make me want to read this book, especially when she uses the phrase “self-savvy insights.”
Since yours is obviously so much better, Constant, why don't you go ahead and post a link.
p.s., bitching and whining is unprofessional, too.

There's something I never would have guessed existed.
The production quality sort of reminds me of "This Old House".
If this was produced by a major publisher, then yeah, it's kind of cheesy, but it still will promote the book. These videos are viral, as you just helped to demonstrate.
If she just made it herself... eh, it wasn't that bad for an amateur. It's probably just going to be a link on her own website and included in promotional emails and stuff. You go, girl.
Authors have to do lots of stupid crap to stand out from the crowd, like doing book readings, for instance.

Are you gay, Paul? (I can never remember who is gay and who is straight at the stranger.) Because you seem to have missed the how this trailer will sell the book: she is pretty hot, she is into sex, and it implies that she is now single.
I thought it was kind of amusing.
