Slog - Comments on Guess Who Got a Book Deal?

Dustin Diamond, better known as Screech on Saved By the Bell, is writing a tell-all. Or more accurately, he's dictating a tell-all to his ghostwriter. Behind the Bell, which Gotham Books preempted from Objective Entertainment's Jarred Weisfeld, promises to detail "sexual escapades among cast members, drug use, and hardcore partying" I bet your local independent bookstore will take your pre-orders now....

Comment by Mark in Senegal

It'll put a fun spin on the episode where the movie star comes to Bayside to film an anti-drug commercial with the kids and then tokes up and disappoints all the kids who thought he believed the message. Then at the end of the episode, the actors/actresses even did a little don't-do-drugs serious cap to the show.

Why does a 39 year old guy know this?

Aw c'mon, give the kid a break.

Must be tough knowing your professional career has peaked-out at the ripe old age of 23, and that the next half-century or so of your life is just going to be one long, slow downhill slide toward inevitable oblivion.

COMTE: Not even 23. That show was over when he was just 16! Then it moved on to college years, etc., but I think it's safe to say his career had peaked by 16.

Comment by David E.

I saw him back when I was in high school. He came to the University of Oregon to do a stand up show that wasn't half bad, but I felt really bad for him since most of his jokes were really self deprecating. My favorite part occurred after the event, though, when my friend and I went up to his little table outside the auditorium to see him sign autographs. He was selling autographed pictures of himself, which isn't so weird, except that the whole thing was really low-rent because the pictures looked like they had been printed on an inkjet printer at his house on glossy paper. I think my friend got him to sign his ticket stub and then mentioned how he "really respects him as an artist." We left quickly.
