Slog - Comments on Dr. Actually-pretty-good.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, which I wrote about here, is up in its entirety for free viewing today and tomorrow, and then after that, you'll have to pay to watch it, either on DVD or as a download. It's actually surprisingly touching for a half-hour-long musical internet serial about a super-villain, and some of the jokes are hilarious. Find it here....

Dan Savage advocates for the Iraq War in The Stranger--Oct. 2002

"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times."

"In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."

Comment by COMTE

I think they will, @12. The point of this little "experiment" seems to be to show the suits that one can produce a low-budget (low six figures) product, essentially give it away as an enticement to get people to purchase a sell-through item (the DVD), and still make a reasonable profit - albeit not one in the tens or millions of dollars range, but more modestly in the hundreds of thousands of dollars range.

And it's Whedon, so you know the DVD "extras" (which my sources are telling me will essentially be a parody of DVD commentary tracks and "special features" add-ons) are going to be worth the $12 or $15 sell-through price.

Presumably, it's his way of proving the concept that small-scale production can generate small, but steady income-streams that, while not in the range of summer mega-blockbusters, nevertheless justify the expenditure of modest amounts of capital, IF the ROI meets a certain level of expectation.

My guess is, if this returns more than 100% ROI, it could be considered a qualified success.
