Pat Tillman is a pro footballer who left his lucrative career to be a hero and fight ~terrorists~ in Afganistan. He got killed. And not even by the ~terr-rists~ but by friendly fire. Which was then covered up.

He hilariously screemed, as he was being shot at, I'M PAT FUCKING TILLMAN!

From AngleMagazine.com:

Gonçalves' painting style, which is deceptively inert, conservative and unobtrusive, plays at least as important a role in the creation of meaning as does his choice of imagery. He paints in a quirky photo-realist manner that draws on the early court paintings of Francisco Goya, the high-finish of Philip Pearlstein, and the eye for social tension seen in Eric Fischl's work. But unlike Fischl, who uses unusual angles and lighting to throw the forbidden or unsavory acts of upper-middle class life into high, critical relief, Gonçalves paints in a slick, meticulous manner that mirrors the equally stylish character of his subjects, whether they be well-groomed men, fast cars or well-appointed interiors. Content and style thus combine to produce a mutually constitutive effect in his work. As a result, Gonçalves creates a link between his own subjectivity as a painter and that of the sitter, rendering both complicit in the creation of meaning.

But it still sucks.

@5, you've uncovered further proof that a critical review can be spun in any fashion to suit it's subject.

Oh, my god; I'm wiping tears of joy from my eyes after reading that asinine art review.

A green bow tie? How about putting him in a blue tux with a ruffled shirt.

I nominate the piece for this honor.

For any of you out there who are Krakauer fans, and/or have followed the Pat Tillman story, Krakauer almost released a book about Tillman, but the whole things on hold for now.
