Unless this mishap occurred in the fire station, I'd like to know how it avoided running out of air.

Cats stick their heads into things they shouldn't all the time. Where do you think the saying came from?

@2: I imagine its neck is thinner than its head, so it wasn't like it was stuck fast, it was just his head was in and he couldn't pull back out past his ears.

My dad always said, "If they could bottle pussy, they'd make a million bucks!"

Dad...here's your millionaire.

@7 Firefighters always have the right tool for the job, at least any job I'd like them to do to, er, I mean for me.

A friend and I once found a cat in an alley with its head stuck in a can. Kitty obviously smelled something good in it. Anyway, we got the can off without lube, just held him and pulled it off. He hissed at us and ran away, but I still felt like a million bucks for doing a good deed.

Chris @3, thanks for the hilarious link.  It reminds me of the similarly amusing origami boulder.

Bunch of firefighters, lube and a cat. Didn't turn out as bad as it might have.

Why didn't they just use a hammer to smash the jar?

Hmmm... do you really need a firefighter for this? What if while these guys were wasting the fire department's time a cat died stuck in a tree?

Well... actually my Dad always used to say "you never saw a cat skeleton in a tree?" My cat got stuck in a tree once and we took the cushions off of my Mom's couch to make a little pad, then I went up in the tree and threw the cat out of the tree. Hit the perfect spot, the cat hit the ground (couch) running. I felt pretty proud of that solution but liek the man said the problem didn't really require a solution, the cat wasn't going to die in there.

I found a cat in my recycling with its head stuck in a Girl Scout's Thin Mints box. I pulled it's head out but then got mine stuck in there.

What do you call a cat with its head stuck in a jar?

A good start.

This exact thing happened to my childhood cat. They don't run out of air..but we did have to smash the jar. He was alrite.
