In 2012, cities in King County will have to provide their own space for misdemeanents—because of expected population increases in the jail system—currently housed in the county's jails. Because of the impending deadline, in May, Seattle announced four potential locations in the city—in West Seattle, Haller Lake, and Interbay—to build a new, seven-acre jail.
