What are we watching for with the third one?

Don't know, elenchos. Just watching, watching.

I mean like, if a youth pastor won a frozen turkey in a raffle, that would be up on the Slog too? I thought this was about youth pastors, like, abusing the youth.

Come to think of it, a frozen turkey would be murder...

Huh. I assumed we were watching for more people being blown away and amazed by god's goodness. I'm surprised that article doesn't mention what deity was responsible for the Jonker's infertility in the first place. Anyway, thanks to god for the science and technology behind modern fertility treatments. Yay god.

I love Slog as much as the next person. I'm a fan of Dan and all that he's brought to the super-stale world of political and social commentary.

But, is Slog really the right venue for these incessant Youth Pastor Watches? I mean, aren't you preaching to the choir here? Certainly, I know that you're attempting to create a record of these abuses, and drive the point home, in the hopes that on occasion, the actual target audience will wander in to read these missives.

BUT...even though I suspect that some of the target DO wander in, in the meantime, you are taking valuable time and eye-estate away from we loyal readers who I'm guessing largely scan over these posts.

Here's an idea: start a separate blog, called "youthpastorwatch" or some such and post these missives there. The advantage to that is it would likely get picked up and moved to top level in a google search, and anyone, anytime, looking for information on youth pastors would be routed to your exclusive blog.

Whaddya think? :-)

Keep up the good work Dan. The more of these examples you give, the more people will realise what a con game religion has become.

@5

I think Dan has addressed this point in the past related to his "every child deserves a mother and a father" posts.

I can't speak for him but I believe it was along the lines of - as long as they (religious nuts) are reminding the country that gays are the downfall of civilization that will molest our children, it bears repeating that THESE HYPOCRITES are often the real threat. The ones perpetrating this very violence of hate on our community are inflicting the thing they are trying to prevent on their own kind.

It keeps it at the top of our minds and makes us more ready to combat the bigotry we so often face.

I, for one, revel in these.

Oh, hey, Mr. Savage, I want to thank you for replying to me. For the last few days I was seriously beginning to think the only person left on earth willing to talk to me was Tim Eyman.

Yeah, I know.

Savage is only 3.29 billion of these posts away from causing one deeply faithful Christian to blink. Keep on posting!

“We’re just blown away and amazed at God’s goodness.”

Wouldn't 'goodness' be setting up an adoption agency for all those unwanted babies Jesus freaks insisted be 'saved' from abortion? Wouldn't that have been a better use for the money instead of fertility treatments? If these 'good' Christian couples wanted a little bit of God's 'goodness' why didn't they adopt?

Yeah, I know.

Currently youthpastorwatch.com says:

Sponsored Listings

"Free Online Bible Study" etc.

I hope to see some improvements. Also, I want to see an every child website. We can make that the first hit one google (rather than your slog post on the subject).

Isn't there some way to embed links in the words "youth pastor" to affect what comes up on a Google search? I think a writer on Slate did that with "genocidal tyrant."

So you can't play god in preventing pregnancies, but you can in creating them? Christians, a LITTLE consistency, please.

#14 - actually, I was a bit surprised to see this news item, because I do hear a lot of stories of Christian churches opposing fertility treatments due to the fact that they create a lot of fertilized eggs that don't get used. And as we all know (and as a proposed amendment to the Colorado legislation is soon to make law), fertilized eggs are fully-fledged people.
