Thanks... I thought I was going crazy in the grocery store this weekend ("I could have sworn the gardenburgers were stocked in this aisle..."). Normally the store puts up a note when something like that happens. Weird.

They realized the formula wasn't converting enough vegetarians to eat meat so they pulled them off the shelves to suck out more of the moisture and fat. It's the same people behind "tofurky," which is really made by a wing of the American Beef and Poultry Council.

It wasn't a health safety issue, but a product quality issue.

So they say.

The withdrawal is voluntary and is not a recall per se. But that hasn't stopped major supermarkets and smaller restaurant chains from pulling it.

@9 - I would like to correct my prior statement - at the time I posted it I did not know that South Korea's government had just agreed to allow US beef into their country, even if a few hundred thousand of their citizens were protesting against it.

Probably trying to protect their dog meat industry ... or maybe the "true" source of gardenburgers?

A note in the "health food" section of my local department store informed me that (unfortunately) there were "issues" with the "supply chain" for Gardenburger and the store wasn't sure when they would be available again. They also said they had no detailed information as to why. For further information we were to contact customer service.

Damn, I guess I'll just have to start gnawing on big hunks of raw beef now, since Gardenburgers are the ONLY vegitarian thing out there...

If being a vegetarian is so great then why do you fucking fake hamburgers to trick your body into believing that it is eating meat?

maybe because meat is fucking delicious and necessary for a truly healthy existence (in moderation and non-factory farmed, of course) give it up vegetarians.. you know you want some BACON!! mmmmmmmmmm

Silly people. Gardenburgers (not any 'ol veggie burger) are yummy and I am a total meat eater. As to them missing - yup, the last two boxes I bought were odd - the burgers a little darker than normal and tasting slightly different - no problem to eat though. They were gone from the stores long before this tomato retardedness. Bummer bought by Kellog. Ack.
