Gardenburgers nationwide have been surreptitiously removed from shelves and menus. Why? Nobody seems to know. The answer, according to this one vegetarian thread, could involve lost keys, electrical failures, construction, and sawdust. But a response from Gardenburger was exceedingly unhelpful:
Kellogg® has removed a limited number of Gardenburger® products from distribution while we upgrade the manufacturing facility. The product is not being recalled and is safe for consumption. We hope to have Gardenburger® products available again at retailers by mid-June.
Consumer confidence is not in this way built.

Both Six Arms and Honey Hole had no Gardenburgers last week. This might explain that. Weird that it isn't in the news.
So, the outbreak means that real hamburgers are safer than veggie burgers?
Is that why the veggie burger I got from Scooter's the other day was this icky breaded bullshit?

Thanks... I thought I was going crazy in the grocery store this weekend ("I could have sworn the gardenburgers were stocked in this aisle..."). Normally the store puts up a note when something like that happens. Weird.

They realized the formula wasn't converting enough vegetarians to eat meat so they pulled them off the shelves to suck out more of the moisture and fat. It's the same people behind "tofurky," which is really made by a wing of the American Beef and Poultry Council.
There is no truth to the rumor that beef from the USA is still banned in South Korea and Japan.
Except for the fact that it is.

The withdrawal is voluntary and is not a recall per se. But that hasn't stopped major supermarkets and smaller restaurant chains from pulling it.
Oh man, I was in the Ballard Fred Meyer the other day and saw a notice posted inside the freezer-door which provided a reasonable explanation of the shortage, but I can't remember for the life of me what it was.
I like Morningstar Farms better, have you had their black bean burger or or the tomato basil pizza burgers?
You can get pretty much the same thing by breaking off slices of those pressed-sawdust fire logs they sell in the grocery stores.
boxofbirds and fnarf: yes, that explains and sums it up, respectively. if you can't stand to eat meat, why not just eat avo and tomato on toast? but gardenburgers!? why, oh god why!?
Their "Flame-grilled" soy burgers used to be, um, the bomb. But now they suck. Must be Kellogg's buying 'em. All fall to The Man.

@9 - I would like to correct my prior statement - at the time I posted it I did not know that South Korea's government had just agreed to allow US beef into their country, even if a few hundred thousand of their citizens were protesting against it.
Probably trying to protect their dog meat industry ... or maybe the "true" source of gardenburgers?
A note in the "health food" section of my local department store informed me that (unfortunately) there were "issues" with the "supply chain" for Gardenburger and the store wasn't sure when they would be available again. They also said they had no detailed information as to why. For further information we were to contact customer service.
Damn, I guess I'll just have to start gnawing on big hunks of raw beef now, since Gardenburgers are the ONLY vegitarian thing out there...

maybe because meat is fucking delicious and necessary for a truly healthy existence (in moderation and non-factory farmed, of course) give it up vegetarians.. you know you want some BACON!! mmmmmmmmmm

garden burgers dont taste like meat. they arent supposed to taste like meat. people dont eat them because they want something that tastes like meat.
Silly people. Gardenburgers (not any 'ol veggie burger) are yummy and I am a total meat eater. As to them missing - yup, the last two boxes I bought were odd - the burgers a little darker than normal and tasting slightly different - no problem to eat though. They were gone from the stores long before this tomato retardedness. Bummer bought by Kellog. Ack.
