Slog - Comments on White--Out?

Forty-sixth legislative district candidate Scott White is perhaps best known for claiming victory in the nomination battle for his district--hours after his opponent, Gerry Pollet, won the nomination in an initial ballot count, and based on an "extra" ballot found in the home of one of his supporters long after the official counts were over. Pollet, as I've written on Slog, was later declared the "official" nominee. That designation, however, doesn't mean much, because neither candidate can use it on the election ballot--instead, both will run with "prefers Democrat" next to their names, under the new "top two" primary system...

I dunno, isn't dropping out only to have a change of heart and drop back in pretty much just as bad as just dropping out, period? Either people can't vote for the guy or they won't vote for the guy because he's flaky and unreliable. Of course, after that endorsement fiasco, I guess this latest bout of flakiness is par for the course for Scott White.

As for Gerry Pollet, let's see... Solid environmentalist and density/transit guy. No weirdness. Speaking as someone who has little time to devote to politics in my state legislative district, I know enough to say Pollet's got my vote.

Comment by Seattle Dem

Is he (back) in as a mere formality in the event he recovers sooner than expected? (i.e. if he remains sick, he simply suspends the campaign?). Did his consultants want him to stay in so they keep getting their cut of fundraising, or did he need to stay in to pay off accumulated debt of some kind? Can you keep changing your mind like that? Odd. He's described in the article as "despondent". Is something else going on here?

Ambition can be blinding. The guy from Tri-Cities whose wife got sick had the appropriate judgment to drop out of the SPI race - and stay out

"Solid environmentalist and density/transit guy."

Cressonna, I would not call Gerry Pollett much of a big light rail guy. He was supporting Bob Ferguson when Ferguson was running against Carolyn Edmonds, and carrying the light rail critics' water. Both Ferguson and Pollett are bus guys. Light rail will always be a secondary priority.
