I love Meerkats! And I have loved Mongooses since I saw Chuck Jones' Rili-Tiki-Tavi when I was but a child. Goes to show how unobservant I am. I need a beer.

My ex-boyfriend brought some Mongoose IPA over to my apartment one night. He only drank one and then avoided the rest on every subsequent visit. After we broke up, I drank one, hoping to consume and get rid of them. I then found out why he wouldn't touch any of the other five.

I've never understood why they didn't call it Meerkat IPA if they thought the mongoose on the label was off-putting (OK, so I'm assuming that last bit).

Bill Jenkins head brewer of Big Time -does- brew a seasonal "Meerkat IPA" as a nod to Mongoose IPA (and the label) which he had a hand in creating when he was at Hales. Someone on the Meerkat Manor production team found out about Meerkat IPA and paid Bill to send over several cases of Bombers* for their season three launch party.

*Though the beer was labeled as 'Meerkat IPA' the bottles actually contained Scarlet Fire (another IPA) as Bill haden't brewed Meerkat IPA in months. Don't tell anyone.

While they are many excellent European lagers, if you're refering to any you'll find at a Safeway (Becks, Heinekin, Stella Artois, Harp) then your answer is American brewers already have approximated it. It's called Budweiser. I'll give you Pilsner Urquell, but not by much.

I also love Meerkat Manor, and the American Hobbit's strangely placid narration. A little baby meerkat gets eaten and he intones, soothingly, "nature at its rawest" before segueing to something cuter. Love love love.

Also, I suspect his immersion in this matriarchal society is responsible for his support of Hillary Clinton; his incoherent pitch at the 43rd LD caucus gave nothing else to go on.

@12 -- You are a fucking jackass. Not only are there a huge number of domestic craft breweries doing high-quality low IBU lagers and ales, there are a bunch of local breweries producing great stuff. Try Baron, Alpine, Georgetown, Laughing Buddha, Elysian to name a few...

You probably drink Stella, right? Fucking frat-boy phillistine.

P.S. We stopped using the word "microbrews" in around 1989. Might want to get rid of your Jesus Jones cassette tapes as well.
