The three Seattle-area men apparently died in an avalanche while snowboarding in December. Friends resumed the search after snow melted and found the bodies Saturday. They were removed Sunday by airlift. The three men were 26-year-old Kevin Carter, 29-year-old Devlin Williams, and 41-year-old Phillip Hollins. I was a member of the party that located and brought these gentlemen home. We were not SAR, Sheriff's, or affiliated with any formal organization. Just back country riders who felt a kinship with these men and wanted to bring them home so their families could begin the long process of closure.

These men inspired their friends and family to continue searching for them until they were located and brought home. I doubt that you would inspire the same loyalty in your loved one's, at least based on the persona you display in your comments.

That said, you're a example of why the internet sucks. Those who know or represent the least can only contribute by upping the shock value to the nth degree

So go ahead, talk shit and raise the level of white noise in the public discourse. Just know that while you are wasting your life doing so, others are out living it.

They were a couple of freaking messengers who didn't do enough prep. Where were their avalanche beacons? Why were they up there? They knew it was high peak danger. They were snowboarders, not gentlemen. You wanna bet that there corpses were found huddled around a bong, or some other smoking apparatus? Maybe it was worse, maybe they were tripping.

Either way, good riddance. A case of natural selection at work. One less "messenger" acting stupid.

I also knew Phillip, although not as well as I would have liked. His smile and zeal for life was infectious. We are the same age and I had always thought to myself...you need to get to know this quality man better.

Now, although I will never have the pleasure, I can't help but feel that we all have a better understanding of loyalty, friendship and kindness because of these men.

Phillips' mother Sally I know is having a difficult time once again; but in a few days or perhaps weeks, she will sleep soundly once again. And I remind her that the kind, quietly spiritul man she raised will forever more be a part of our collective conciousness. Phillip showed us how to live a life of honor and adventure and now, he teaches us that how we treat others and live each day will determine our legacy.
