i'm cool with it. BHO has the NW locked.
he's got to convince whitey he's not the antichrist, and we aren't that "whitey", though we're mighty white.
'...straight from the Kansas heartland...' Is that a coded hint on VP choice?
The close on that ad is genius shit.
No need to run ads in a state where he's been up over 20% in every poll since day one.
OR might need some help, but I don't think we'll see much activity from Obama, better to spend money in places he needs to win.
I think it's a bit unfair to Obama that the reception to this ad (around the political blogosphere, with people like Matt Y) is that he is unsubtly trying to emphasize his white background. While there's likely some truth to that, the guy should be able to make reference to his own damn mother and grandparents without being told that he's trying to convince us he's white.
I'm cool with that. If he can carry places like Iowa, Florida, and Indiana because of semi-ignoring Washington, I'm definitely willing to forgive President Obama.
I'm 100% positive Obama's going to take Montana, maybe by a huge margin, as long as he doesn't do anything crazy like murder someone with his bare hands.
I was going to compare this with McCain's "get to know me ad" on my blog, but I found this instead... McCain does cribs:

if hillary had run that ad you would have crucified her. oh wait, you already did. media bias runs both ways, my friends.
fnarf, you are an idiot. montana hasn't gone to a dem president in like 60 years. but keep on speaking your ill-informed opinions...
The candidate who spends the wisest wins.
It's the states where the American Idol-addled idiots still think he's a Muslim Manchurian Candidate where he needs ads as personal as this one to be seen. Washington is not one of those states.
Go for it, Barry, we know ya love us anyway...
@9 If she had won the nomination, few here would have a problem with her running an ad like this.
A damn good ad. He's smart not to run it in Seattle, too. Talking about "values straight from the heartland" and "faith in the country I love" would probably turn off most Seattle voters.
#10, you are an idiot. Who cares if it hasn't gone D in 60 years?
Montana, Alaska, and the Dakotas are all within reach. McCain's candidacy hasn't even begun to implode yet, either.
Of course, there is only 12 EVs between them, but whatever.
@10, Montana's got a Democratic governor and two Democratic senators. And they last supported a Democratic candidate for president SIXTEEN years ago, not sixty. That's three elections. Who's an idiot, now?
Stop complaining. Not seeing that ad is proof
you don't live in a shithole.
Hey Fnarf @7 I think you might be right. Montana has a democratic governor and two democratic senators right now. Obama2008! @10, Montana supported Bill Clinton for president in 1992, which kinda makes your comment a little ironic.
@1 and @5. . .good points! I totaly agree with ya'.
We'll defeat NO-Bama in November!!!
What an insightful point you have there, #19. Better stock up on coat hangers.
The political process overwhelms a candidate's good intentions.
Between this ad and his flip/flop on public campaign financing, it's clear from Mr. Obama's actions that we are going to get more of the same. He may change what he said he'd do, if it helps him politically. Whatever CHANGE he thought he'd bring has been thoroughly "boiled" out of him through the nomination process.
Yes, he wants to win. Yes, he has to play the game. But it's clear his handlers have trained him. Don't think that he can flip this on and off. Those same handlers will be guiding him if he is elected President. Telling him what he needs to do to win politically.
If it's not his handlers telling him to do this, then he simply mislead us. NO different than Clinton, Bush, or any politician.
Any hope for real change is dead.
Gee, it's not like he's running 80 percent with massive donation levels around here.
Oh, wait ... he is.
Yeah, this ain't McSame country, that's for darned sure.
and @7 is right about Montana - that state's locked down too.
im not entirely happy with the welfare to work line.
as a new yorker i take deep offense at his wall street jab...just kidding...
medina your not wearing all black and writing bad poetry right now are you? 'cause you sound like a regular barrel of monkeys to me...
@15 -- Now, now...why go zero sum? You're both idiots, and mommy loves you each in your own special way.
You're not still mad, are you, Jubilation?
The ad is fine. During the primaries, a candidate must appeal to the base. But once a primary is over and the general election campaign starts, all candidates run for the center. Duh.
And after the blowout he had here in the primary, it doesn't surprise me he isn't blowing money here on ads when he doesn't need to. Spend it where it might make a difference. November is still 5 months away, people. I'm sure we'll see ads here eventually.
I don't need Barack to kiss my ass. I need him to win this election. So fucking much. Heigh ho! BO!
@27 -- You need to apologize for that song.
About time Democrats/progressives said "we stand up for America's values."
What I've liked about Obama is his ability to wrap together the colonists fighting the British, the civil rights workers, the greatest generation fighting the Nazi's etc. into one big American communicty where we all want opportunity for all and stand together.
Those who disdain patriotism/the American flag etc. don't get it.
note his background of French doors -- mullions make multiple crosses -- a la Huckabee ad -- nary a crescent to be seen.
@30, I did.
@34 -- Where?
In the original post. I don't know where it is. I can't find it now. I can't even find your burst of fury.
Those kids were talented, and innocent, and it was awful. Hate them if you must for being MUFC, but some of those boys could have brought England a World Cup in 62 AND 66!!! And that has to be respected.
I'll shake your hand if you understand that.
Of course I do, Jube. Don't be daft.
For someone who claims to be a fan of English soccer, you don't understand the art of the windup very well, do you? That's the thing about the song; it's not offensive in what it SAYS, because what it says is ridiculous on the face of it. It's offensive because it was written -- not by me, may I point out -- deliberately to piss off Man Utd FANS, NOW. It's not disrespectful of the dead; it's disrespectful of the living.
See how that makes it all better?
Hmm. Let me try again. It's in the same spirit as songs about Posh Spice's cunt, or the reworking of "You'll Never Walk Again" into "You'll Never Work Again" -- "Sign on, sign on, with your pen in your hand...." It's designed to get a reaction. And, goddamn, it does!
So, yeah, I was winding you up, because it's funny to see. I didn't expect you to go off the deep end. And for that I am sorry. For singing it, no, but for pissing you off so much. Even though that's what I was trying to do. Does that make any sense? I was trying to get a rise; I wasn't trying to set your hair on fire. And no, I wasn't disrespecting the loss of life.
But you know, if you really want to hear the song sung loud, don't look at me. Go watch United play City at City of Manchester Stadium.
Posh spice is a slapper.
BHO is a superstar. Srsly.
