Big guns: Investigators find plans for advanced nuclear weapon on computer of Pakistani nuclear scientist.

High tension: Karzai threatens to send troops into Pakistan.

Here to stay: After a year, Hamas maintains power in Gaza.

Big flood: Downpour in China leaves 55 dead, forces more than a million out of their homes, government says.

Speaking of floods
: Cedar Rapids, Iowa is underwater.

Tainted by experience
: John McCain’s 1974 analysis of United States war policy.

Mr. Bush goes to Europe
: Bush bashes Iran with Sarkozy, compliments Sarkozy’s wife, drinks tea with the Queen of England.

The kids aren’t alright: Cops crack down on high school keggers.

Badass: Marsha Pechman doesn’t take shit from anyone.

“Tragic accident”: UW student dies after fall from frat house window.

From “Imprisoned Narrative? Or Lies, Secrets, and Silence in New Mexico Women’s Autobiography,” by Genaro Padilla. Criticism in the Borderlands, Calderón, Héctor and José David Saldívar, eds. Duke University Press, 1991.

We must account for the complex textual voicings of socially subordinate writers without losing ourselves to a form of progressive intellectual snobbery that overlooks or ignores those flashes in imprisoned discourse that are the textual signal of embryonic consciousness, whispers of antecedent resistance that have provided us the opening for clearly revisionary and resistive utterance.

very little to report.

1. Warner out as VP so now off the list includes him, Strickland Webb (failed to condemn rebs enuf) Dodd (deal with lender)

2. the Obama plan includes raising voter registration and turnout in many states, great article in NYT on that.

But note: of new registrations 30-45% roughly are invalid. Errors abound. Many will turn up to find they can't vote.

I looked at his website and it's hard to find a way to go volunteer to help register voters in a swing state. There's no call of where to go to make the most difference. So the lack of focus ill end up wasting 60% of the volunteer hours.....for most volutneers their state is already in the bag (and for some clearly not attainable).

If they would just take some of that energy and man hours from Cal IL or NY and send them to NV MO OH FL, that'd yield more.

Failure to target. Some efforts produce huge electoral vote returns, others zip, nada nothing.

3. Guardian article on Obama's real economic leanings tying him to Chicago school will give the lefty lefties pause.

4. Here's an article explaining the noonracial reasons he does poorly among Reagan Democrats and dogpatchy white folks:

http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/015/215hpooz.asp?pg=2

In short: he's a wussy wonk "priest" like all the Democratic party losers (Dukakis Kerry Humphrey etc) not a "warrior" like Andy Jackson, Harry S., JFK. What I been sayin'. The article cites data in Va. showing Wilder did better than Obama in the AppalacHian areas, too. So these wwc dogpathers are okay with a black guy if he'll come join them in kicking ass of those who threaten them & their families.

Unity, hope, change, & kick ass!

I like it.

Did Mudede write that review of "Imprisoned Narrative? Or Lies, Secrets, and Silence in New Mexico Women’s Autobiography"? Could have been taken straight from one of his posts, minus the photo of a buxom Nubian lass or an architectural rant.

Narcissis Broadcasting Network cable channel now in 3d day of Russert hagiography.

Oh wow -- he'll lie in state in the Capitol for three days, arriving on a slow train from Buffalo.

He was a good questioner by the low standards of the media but they've never spent 3 days on lies and crimes of Bush administration. He never really called Bush on lying or violating the international law of self defense by changing the standard to one letting us attack anyone anytime no matter how non-imminent the threat is.

"But President Bush, isn't it true that there are about 35 other nations that could make WMD and sell or hand off the technology to terrorists -- are you going to invade them, too?"

He didn't ask Bush why he shouldn't be impeached.

And I don't care about his baseball glove when he was 12 years old either.

@5, @7: So just how far do you think Russert's career would have gone if he asked questions like that? No, he got the zingers in a far more intelligent way. He didn't want to be hostile to any politician, but fair and hard. That made for more a far more reaching dialog and enabled him to continue to interview all the important figures and made the most whiney liberal to the most arrogant conservative want to be invited on his show.
