Did they have to wait until the Mariners were firmly entrenched as the worst team in baseball?

I can't yell YEAH loud enough. I'd do the job for medical expenses and good seats and would do a better job than Bavasi did.

I don't follow the game well enough, but the obvious choice would be whomever works for the Red Sox.

Whoever it is I hope they can bring in a better manager, Dusty Baker maybe.

Good riddance

It's about time. I feel sorry for McLaren. With a team this bad it's hard to tell if he's any good, but at least the man that saddled this horse has ridden off into the sunset.

McLaren's days are numbered too, assuming they don't appoint an interim GM though internal promotion, but instead seek someone outside of the orginization. A new GM will undoubtedly bring in their own manager.

Personally, I don't think either Bavasi or McLaren are any good at what they do, but Bavasi was from all accounts a real nice guy, at least.

Way too fucking little and WAY too fucking late.

Great, now we can look forward to another re-building process for the next 4-5 years.

Fucking joke of a front office.

Going, going, GONE! Goodbye, baseball!

And here I was thinking that the Bavasi-led M's would make my 90-win season laugh at Fnarf's 78.

Fuck it, though. I still go out to the park and watch/listen to most of the games otherwise. I'm a gamer. I'm going down to see the Fish tonight.

im watching the fish on wednesday, but i m officially throwing in the towel. we lost to DC fer feck's sake. this season is fried.

fire the manager and all his staff, send sexson to the aquasox, kneecap beltre, shoot all the pitching staff, get rid of all the touristy fans who dont know jack about baseball, get jr from the red sox before he is too old and make him a DH and hire edgar martinez as hittin coach

ooops i meant the reds, not the damn red sox.

I'm still watching, too, Lloyd. Just like the old days, when the M's lost all the time. Too bad we have to sit outside in the sunshine instead of that lovely concrete tomb, though.

I still think they're going to regress to the mean a little and end up at about 70 wins, plus or minus. They need to outright release Sexson and Vidro next.

I withhold my glee until I see whom they replace him with. Podesta or Antonetti = good; another old-school thinker like Bavasi, which is what Lincoln and Armstrong always lean towards, wouldn't be an improvement.

The manager doesn't really matter that much, but Dusty Baker or any of the other usual retread dumbasses is the wrong answer. We need someone with new ideas. Dave Cameron at USSM mentioned Torey Lovullo the other day; but the minors are absolutely crawling with smart young guys who've managed thousands of games.

There's that rumor today, SeMe, about Griffey possibly considering going to the Rays. I'm a huge Rays fan, so I'm thinking...why another left-handed bat! Har-har. Big series for the Rays with the Cubbies coming to town with Lou in tow.

Looking forward (as one only can during this shat season) of seeing Uggla and Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Cantu in action. Silva better spot his fastball if he wants to stay in the park.

Hey, also, Willie got a hit yesterday!

My first exposure to the M's was in the heady days of Mark Langston (who somehow managed to get 15+-win seasons in years of absolute dogshit team records) and the Davis/Reynolds/Quinones/Presley infield. You wanna talk loveable losers? Those guys were it. It's pretty sad when a team's current situation makes one nostalgic for prior eras of loserdom. O, the life of an M's fan.

Griffey IS too old, and Beltre's a good player -- one of our only ones.

I agree on Beltre. I wouldn't mind switching jobs with him if we could also swap bodies.

I would keep Ichiro, Martinez, some of the better pitchers and infielders, and get rid of everybody else. Give a crash course to Edgar Martinez on how to manage him. Bring Griffey back for his last couple of years as DH (both of these two moves, as dumb as you think they are, will put buts in the seats, bringing in revenue to hire better players.

Finally a firing that could make a difference!
