Did she explain why we should support someone who, according to her, didn't have enough experience for the job a few months ago? It's no surprise a significant number of Clinton supporters will vote for McCain given the way she's questioned his ability to serve as President.

the boos in the audience when Obama's name was mentioned were somewhat startling. I hope she makes more appearances endorsing him and tries to help her supporters get over the negativity and hatred by explaining to them what they jeopardize voting for McCain.

I think she'll do the minimum required to have people nod their head and say "OK, she tried to help."

But from a purely Clinton-POV (and that's what the Clinton's are about), a McCain victory would be preferred. Even those Clinton supporters who don't like McCain are saying this, that strategically for Clinton a McCain victory is the goal.

Hills had been the presumptive democratic nominee since - well - 2000. She didn't want to run in 2004. It must be heartbreaking for her after waiting so long for a chance and spending so much money on what seemed only a few years ago like a sure thing.

Aside from the glory of having a woman president (who campaigned,at least, on progressive issues), I don't think people trusted Hillary to follow through. Bill let a lot of people down after he was elected (health care reform, gays in the military) even though we were so happy to have him after 12 long years of Reagan-Bush. Compromise is a supreme talent, but one can trade away too much, and I think that's what Bill Clinton did in order to remain in the good graces of the wrong people.

Hillary may have learned her lesson from this, or she might have used it as her political blueprint. People just didn't know which.

No president can change everything that needs to be reformed, but he or she can set the tone for what needs to be done and can head this country in that direction. Since the United States has veered way off its ethical and constitutional tracks, it wasn't a time to support or elect a person who might not be adamant about changing this country's intentions.

I don't know about you, but for the past eight years, I haven't even felt like this is my country anymore. I'm starting to feel like maybe I can be a patriot again.

Oh. my. God.
The comments on Hillary's blog site (link @6) makes me want to move to Amsterdam. Now.

I guess I take it for granted living in Seattle although every thing I say here feels like preaching to the choir - so I usually opt to not say anything.

I will say though that when traveling I tell people I'm from Canada.

An Hour's Worth of Commentary :

By Daniel

"My reputation and family and friends are being used by the big guys and I'm not liking it very much while they make money and I sound and look bitterly harrassed and whine about alot of things that should piss my friends off while politics and real estate and war are fused together in advertisments for prosecutorial power based lawyer self examining computer analytical corporate protection software programs as the sports story runs away with the newspapers and grampas old railroad penny stocks and my grocery pension...."
Bennett Kieneker

Ya..... mind full of words on the computer terminal for U while the Good Senator's Pictured, and this Stranger Space provides a platform for which to bring more evidence of testimony to light.

This morning I was in downtown Seattle in the Westlake Shopping Center area between 4th and 5th avenue just down the street from Ben Bridge Jewelers... A company one of my family members use to work for.

I mention family because some of us have kids and past lives worth repeating or carrying on about while other forms of life and business often purposefully stay away from dangerously close contact with impropriety.

Here's an example of my witness on this mornings impropriety at Westlake Center.

This wasn't as much of a physical brush up (ie. I was injured physically although I was 'touched' )

as it was in my opinion and experience an emotionally psychological test as often it happens frequently to me these days.... )

I'm walking with my "I'm a Seattle-ite" Seattle Seahawks hat on and this black man with a brown leather jacket and baseball hat does a "Foot Plant Fake" to the inside of my line of walking a few yards ahead of me up the sidewalk on the Cold Water Creek side of the block.

He then moves a little bit back to his original line of walking and my gaze turns causually in another direction.... noticing other people on the street ( because the gentleman walking in front of me appears to be giving me space to walk unheeded through the block area.

When to my suprise as my attention focuses again to the direction I am walking the "foot fake planter leather coat wearer"

actually brushes up against my arm and physically touches me and keeps walking without so much as an "excuse me" or "good morning" or "hey... asshole... didn't you see my 'foot plant'?"

Well, as you can imagine I over-reacted....

(that statement is for all of the readership who don't know my personage now for I assure after the last couple of years homeless and catching up to speed with what I missed in the 2002 Presidential election season which included the local elections with which SOMEONE VERY WEALTHY OR POLITICALLY CONNECTED OR IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW OR SPORTS FANS is trying to keep my medical classification stymied so the truth about my personal freedoms of speech and art don't inter-fear with there realestate scam or lawsuit exagerations.)

Actually for the record I did not over-react.

I called the guy out at contact, used an explative word ( swear word ) and told the guy to go back to Chicago or whrere ever the F***K he belonged..... maybe it's a shelter or a condo or the timeclock to punch out and finish his report to whom-ever.

Then I appologized to the people standing on the street wondering what "that was all about" and called it a brush-up or something to that effect.

You, the reader looking for commentary on Hillary may wonder why this commentary is here in this space.
Please, let me explain.

You see it started a long time ago... yet this morning it was the Seattle Sonics colored Basketball weilded by a black man bouncing bye the University Baptist Church as I was snoozing waiting for the Saturday coffee and lunch feed that I and some other people attend weekly.

Please remember when I get to the part about reading the newspaper, real-estate and Hollywood Director portion of this SLOG entry that I have friends who are black and I'm not picking on the race color theme here... just making observations....

Oh the hell with it....
I was looking at May 24th, 2008 Seattlwe Times and this mornings Seattle Post Intelligencer and reading about the repetative stories and news of the week wondering how many of the related stories go through Clay Bennett and the Sonics e-mails contortions form the Compass Center and the City Council and King County because I'm pissed off about this winter and somebody in the book of the month club and Television and Hollywood Screen Writers Guild is working out some details with my e-mails...( or should be) and Low Earth Orbiter ( my music band ) and my Artwork left around town in a couple of peoples hands and offices...)....

while the newspapers and gossip columnists wonder why ( or know allready why our cities sports teams are in the tank ) and it's real estate depression time again and I just learned today that Clay Bennetts' family owns the 'Oklahoman' news paper and what a cosy relationship for thwe editors of the JOA as I recently gave my e-mail address to the Seattle Times security desk in an attempt to meet with one of their reporters or editors about something I know that's being reported in the newspapers.

Thank goodness for The Stranger.

Because you ask???

They probobly have figure out by now why I compartmentalize adult content themes under investigation by (me) and the freedoms of speech gauranteed by our Constitution...( the one written on Hemp paper by the guys who use to wear uniforms as everyday wear costumes with whigs white powdered whigs...)

Oh ya... don't forget MySpace.

The weird rantings and threats hurled at the wall of silence were and are because I know someone politically connected was/is still trying to use or cover-up the old 2000 election scandle from the Republican Contract and Newt Gingriches Hey Day.

I just can't prove it yet... Thank God for Senator Eric Oemig of Washington State.

Maybe he can tell us a little bit about the separation of powers of Church and State and Freedom from Persecution.

Until then I leave you to Bill Mahrer and Dan Savage while i look up some book stuff to hand in to Jen Graves.

Very good. I wish we would've seen more of this side of Clinton earlier on in the nomination process. I hope we see more of this kind of Clinton in the future as well.

What do you want to bet that the secret Obama/Clinton meeting was a speech writing session?

15

The line about how "although we weren't able to shatter that highest hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it's got about 18 million cracks in it..." struck me as strange. I think it says: The reason I didn't get the nomination because of sexism, not because my opponent was better. Isn't that what the glass ceiling metaphor is about -- sexism that keeps women from getting higher positions?

Posted by M | June 7, 2008 1:25 PM
16

@15, i think it was a legitimate line designed to address the portion of her base that really does believe that it was all about sexism.

i found her speech to be gracious and very well done, and i wish i had seen more of this kind of language and forethought from her during the campaign. i'm interested to see how she follows through (everyone can see how hard this speech was for her to give), but i can't really imagine her getting a better start than this.

Posted by johna | June 7, 2008 1:36 PM

@15: I think a more savvy interpretation would be more about achievement overall than in the face of adversity and all that preachy lovey dovey stuff.

So Obama is still going to be running against Hillary and McCain.... McCain will attack him from the front and Hillary from the back.

After this I swear I will never vote for Hillary no matter what the circumstances. If she ever is the nominee for the Democrats that is the election I will vote against her.

It was a wow speech, repeatedly calling for let's help Barack Obama to be president.

She's allowed to say she made history. She did. She's allowed to say she got 18 million. She did, dimwits.

So touchy.

@1: don't you realize in a rpimary campaign people run AGAINST each other?

THEN after it's over they unify?

Are you totally unaware of hisitory, eg your hero Ted Kennedy kept up his fight right to the convention and helped Carter lose the second time?

That LBJ was going around at the convention saying JFK was terminally ill?

That's a bit rougher then saying "I think I'm best qualified, certainly Obama is qualified, I htink I have a better chance to win, yes Obama can win too" which was what Hillary said.

Unity y'all. Plus take your meds.

This was her audition for role of VP and she passed. You all still fear her. That's why you hate her. You can't explain to yourselves why, oh why, she could be getting almost the same no. of votes and be so strong the last two months and also believe Obama is God, so you demonize her. Instead of just seeing them both as humans, pols, with strengths and weaknesses. So, Obama won because of his skills, being right on the war and organizing in caucus states. So, she was a bit farther behind becuase she didn't become a good campaigner until late, she didn't connect at first and she ddidn't organize in caucus states.

You know it could have easily turned out differently and this is the source of your hate; recognizing reality means you can't adulate Obama so purely.

MY FIRST 100.00

1. Great speech, right message, well delivered. She claimed her place in history which she has surely earned.

2. Obama via all the ending delay/ VP clamor has kept the media focused on HIM. Hillary has done him a favor. Mc Cain can hardly get a line of press folks, THAT is a free media strategy of big import. Keep you man/woman on the front page.

3.She mentioned gay twice to my great delight and with total ease. What a relief.

It time to defeat the war monger and the Bush third term is seemingly accurate. Hillary did it well, work against Mc Cain - work forward not backward - nothing else matters.

America can not sustain many more years of this crap .... sending Obama my first 100.00 .... today, online.

@30:

You are in error, I was never SusanunPC. I didn't even see that one, was it about some Michelle Obama video? I do not know what you are talking about. You might recall once I caught someone trying to be me and wrote a spirited deniala nd defense.

Since I haven't written about any Michelle video, I can't speak to your concerns about that.

"whether Hillary gets VP or not, you're responsible for hurting the Democrats pretty badly."

ha ha ha ha ha.

Ah yes the all powerful me. Ha ha.

Mainly this is what I have written, and it has largely been true:

1. Obama is a great candidate and great leader and has flaws and limitations.
(From the start.)
2. HRC does too, we just know about them all already.
3. More negative stuff about Obama will come out, just you see.

Well I GUESS that was accurate, since he started losing most primaries AFTER the negiatives came out.

Excuse me for telling the truth and making accurate predictions.

Oh btw -- I am not responsible for thing that happened in his life that are "negative" and we should be allowed to discuss them.

4. HRC does in fact show a greater electoral strength due to polls taken AT THIS TIME. I find it unnecessary to repeate constantly "polls are not guarantees and have limited predictive value" dimwit.

But after Obama folks cited tons of polls, and after they cited tons of red state primary results as indicating OBama would take those states in the general election, and after Obama cited the popular vote and other yardsticks, I cited various yardsticks and polls, too.

5. I often "call" people on their claims of racism about who said what because I believ ewe should focus on real, atual deprivations of voting rights like in DC like in PR like in how DNC handled FL and MI and still do. So don't lecture me about damn thing. Until you find the denial of voting rights worthy of attention I really don't give a shit how many times a white dudee says true things like "well MLK needed LBJ too to get the legislation passed" because that kind of pseudo racism....ain't racism. I also have written about how no one takes racism really seriously becuase it is so fundamental in our instutitions like the Senate (gee, no blacks could go get free land and inhabit 12 midwestern states producing an insurmountalbe conservative block in the SEnate we have today) and shit like that so STFU.

6. Often have said Obama can improve this way or that or the issue is how can he improve and started saying Obama will probably win it after Super Tuesday and said HRC SHOULD CONCEDE after IN and NC. So what's the probblem?

7. Have asked others if they like HRC for VP who do they like? Any ideas? Got a problem with that?

8. It is annoying to hear the Obama supporters well some of them hear the HRC speech today and still 100% critical (some of them). What in fuck do you want her to say that she didn't say?

"Could you contact everyone who was influenced by the things you said and make it right?" Um, sure, I will do that by continuing to make comments if you don't like them don't read them. As far as some Michelle videa -- I didn't make the comments you are talking about and didn't see them.

But let's just assume that there's a video of Michelle --what with Farrakhan at some event ? Something like that? Yes that will be used and we should be able to talk about it and assess it.

You may have noticed that I have several times said "where's Obama's p[lan for winning all these swing states?" Sorry if that offends you. Or "gee, where's the big voter registration plan, why aren't there busses being organized right now so people who write all day on Slog can instead go to NM or CO for the weekend and register voters for Obama?" Sorry fi that offends you.

Unity dude. And chill. She gave a good fucking speech. It was 100% pro Obama. don't get in a tizzy that she mentions she got 18 million votes, she's entitled to mention that.

And if you don't want ot chill please tell me why NOT TALKING ABOUT NEGATIVE SHIT is the right way to handle it. You sound like parents decades ago who thought that "not talking about stuff" is how you handle shit. You sound like ultra pc people who say "don't talk about Mark Twain and that word he used in Huckleberrry Finn."
Fiuck all that. Talk about slavery, talk about politicians, talk about flaws and limitations, whatever.
What is the harm, other than to your ego?

"I know telling lies is easier than untelling them,"

Don't know what lies you are referring to. Referring vaguely to lies is so McCarthyite. An old standby.

"but you don't expect somebody else to have to clean up that mess"

oops, I can say you made a mess, too.

"Ask your pal Larry to help."

Don't know Larry and you are vague again.

Unity dude. Chill. We're on the same team. We're trying to elect Obama. If you look at the polls, he's not so ahead or he has problems in places like FL VA MO OH NH NC NM NV and HRC can fucking help him. she's on our team too because......she's a Democrat, duh. And a bit more powerful than a Biden or a Richardson, duh. Whether VP or not we want her supporters to support Obama, donate to Obama, work for Obama.

If you dont' get it after all this I shall not attempt to explain to you again. I am sorry that others have sometimes (2x now) impersonated -- it only shows they are too weak to have their own ideas or pseudo identity I guess.

@Wolf-- What?

I didn't mean to offend your tender sensibilities, just to inject a little levity.

@48

So you've seen the video of me that has been posted on the Slog. And read me state a dozen times that I ride a bike and live in Ballard. Great. What makes you think you know me?

I'm with Elenchos on this one. PC, you need to FOAD and pronto. You're poison, and your witless ranting about Michelle Obama is evidence of as serious a mental illness as Daniel there.

I'm with the Fnarf and elenchos on this, PC you sound as deranged as those no quarter peeps.

Hillary had a great speech, rah rah, let's go support Obama now. And if you can't rally like that, fuck your asses for hating America.

Obamabodies have conspired to steal an election. I don’t care who joined this gang of hustlers and thieves, they deserve to be branded what they are, BIGOTS, RACISTS AND TRAITORS!

For 40 years whites have suffred and sacraficed to be FAIR AND EQUAL, and now we are disrespected, lied to and the final insult, we have our elections STOLEN!

I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION AND THE WHITE GUILT!

Hey, you want to be equal? Stop stealing elections!
