USA Today heard a leak that Apple's going to ease up on AT&T, which wants to offer subsidies to attract more new customers. Meaning the entry price may drop to $199. Ha ha!

I've got a 1st gen iPhone, and I'm not going to be in a huge hurry to replace it (although I'm sure I will eventually). I mostly use it for voice and text messaging. I use a fair amount of the other stuff that's more affected by a faster connection, but not often or heavily. I'm excited about third-party apps (which will run on both old and new anyway)- maybe one of those will change my mind but in the meantime I just use it as a really good phone. ^-^

The advantage of the 3G iPhone is that it drains your non-standard batteries even faster than the 2G iPhone, while still getting less broadband than almost any phone in Japan or South Korea does ...

Actually, they're citing substantially longer battery life for the 3G iPhone.

As for Japanese and Korean phones, that might be a criticism of the U.S. wireless industry as a whole, but hardly a ding against the iPhone (unless moving to Japan or Korea for the sake of better wireless service seems like a reasonable option).

Dan - don't you know any mac geeks? And where did you find an iPhone anyway - they were supposedly sold out for the last month - which was considered another strong signal that they'd be updated soon.

Many of the new features announced today are the result of a software update and will be available to older iPhones and iPod Touch devices.
