Surely the booth could be livened up by the addition of some song and dance, maybe even some sort of make-up applied to the face...

The Dr. Dre song was a nice touch.

The "Norwegian" lady is nuts.

strangerly enough, i heard about a similar thing on ira glass' show on showtime - "Another segment deals with an Iraqi man who is in this country as a student. He is curious as to what ordinary people think about the war in Iraq and America’s occupation of this country. To learn the truth or as close to it as he can get, he travels around the country putting up a small booth with a sign overhead that reads, “Meet An Iraqi.” " http://www.jackiekcooper.com/TVReviews/2008/ThisAmericanLife.htm

Now I'm laughing.

But seriously, folks, in order to turn white people into human beings we're going to have to endure a lot of this kind of mild embarrassment. At least he's not in a cage, like the "Hottentots" that used to travel the country back in the early twentieth century on display at fairs and whatnot. I have some terrifying news clippings around here somewhere....

My ex-sister-in-law from very southern Ohio had never seen a black person in real life until she went to basic training for the Air Force. Welcome to middle America, folks!

And isn't there also a similar program to "meet an Iraqi" going on in Germany, like "meet an American"? Seems like I'd heard something about it on NPR in the past few months.

Yes, we'll be offering a "Meet a Bubba from the Mountaineer State" at the Capitol Hill Street Fair, too, complete with pork sausage, a rifle from grandad and an old UMW hard hat.

You can ask them exactly why they didn't vote for the guy who said they were clinging to their values.

Maybe he'll ask you why you cling to yours!

E pluribus unum y'all!

Around Fisherman's Wharf my wife and I once saw a couple of guys in meshback hats, jeans and wifebeaters walking along. They took the top off a public garbage receptacle, and took out the trash. One of them climbed in, then the other put the top back on, so that the guy could peer out through the holes. They then set up a cardboard sign that said 'white trash' and started calling 'WHITE TRASH! Get your picture taken with white trash!'.

It was hilarious, althought we were looking for the Bush man.

I knew a Jewish girl who went to the University of Texas, and when she first got there her new freshman roommate asked to feel her head just to set her mind at ease. She KNEW that Jews didn't really have horns like her daddy said, but she just wanted to make double sure. She'd never met one before. True story.

Sargon@18- you're racist for thinking it's racist. And I'm racist for calling you on it.
