onRepublicans are crying anti-Italian bias, Goldy is calling bullshit, Democrats are pulling ads and switching soundtracks, and I’m expecting a scene with Jennifer Melfi counseling an insecure tough-guy at any moment. Stay tuned.

is dino full italian again?
looks like goldy's gettin threats from an commenter with an anonymized IP...!
Interestingly, in the UK, it is Australian Casey Stoner who suffers from bigotry, while the Italian Rossi is adored. Go figure.
@3 he's not full italian...even though he occasionaly tries to play like he is.
C'mon, everyone knows that all eyetalians have mob connections.
@4
Dude. First, Rossi was born in Urbino, Italy.
Second, even if he wasn't "full Italian" whateverthefuck that means, what difference would it make? The ad either uses a negative stereotype or it doesn't.
Remember: We can call Dino a dirt ball, not a grease ball. Please make a note of it.
I think using the Soprano's theme - in addition to being a borderline ethnic slur - just isn't effective at all in this ad.
They'd be better off with the usual ominous low sine wave tone that you hear in attack ads like this.
And why give these jerks the hint of an excuse to play the victim card? Dumb, dumb, dumb....
@6 i'm referring to the fact that for a long time he has tried to hide that he is half tlingit. he tried to pass as italian only.
Oh christ, if they played the Sex and The City theme for a Gregoire ad ECB would be screaming bloody fucking murder, should be fun watching sloggers spin this. God I fucking hate Gregoire, but I ain't voting Rossi.
@9
OK. So what? What if he wants to be taken as Italian only? This matters why?
Kind of the opposite of Iron Eyes Cody, but whatev. People have a right do define their identity, and outsiders have no right to impose another definition on them.
they fucked up, and they pulled the ad. live and learn. why would u use the theme of tony soprano- who was in "the construction" business- if you didnt want to imply some mobbed up connection.
the guineas are right on this. you really cant defend this.
I assume no one would argue that The Sopranos is not a well-known cultural symbol...
So, is the problem that they suggested a "mob connection" or "dirty business" by the music they chose? Or that they made this suggestion against Rossi who is actually Italian?
I mean, the ad doesn't make fun of Italians. It's a piece of music. Would it be okay if Rossi was Greek? Or Swedish?
The Sopranos was a pop-culture phenomenom and those cheap folks without hbo are renting the entire seasons via dvd. u can bet that the ones who edited the video are soprano fans.
the fast pace editing and the music suggested the sopranos opening theme, the sopranos is a northern jersey italian mob family whose empire depends on corrupt construction businesess. duh.
yes dino is a scumbucket, but call him a scumbucket not a dago cuz u gonna piss off all those italo-american democrats who do not want to be thought of as mafiosi just because their last names end in vowels.
@11 its what he said about his mother and her culture that makes me despise him. he used to deny his connection before he went back to alaska. its a form of 'passing' that i don't like.
That website has some glaring typos.
Use the theme from "Jaws" and remind people that Rossi is just another Bush clone who will sink the state in red ink. That'll work.
