RSS icon Comments on So I Hear There's Going to Be a Big Obama Contingent in the Gay Pride Parade Tomorrow...

Yes, we're gonna have a nice big contingent in the parade, and we're very aware of the issues and how Obama is so much better for LGBTQIetc rights than Grampa Munster and his anti-Lawrence-versus-Texas Supreme Court nominees.

If JFK had come out with a strong and vocal Pro-Civil Rights agenda in 1960... he'd have stayed in the Senate and we'd have endured Nixon 8 years earlier.

One step at a time...

Anyone remember having to stand behind "no gay adoptions" Dukakis or very-uneasy Mondale. Count our blessings, folks. And vote vote vote.

Is any Dem running for major office a proponent of gay marriage? Anyone? Even Hillary, who gays seem to think was the very embodiment of gay marriage was limited in what she was willing to say or do. I'll worry about it once he's in office.

I've said this before many times. I'm gay and I'm more than willing to put gay issues on the far back burner this election. gay marriage doesn't end a war in Iraq. gay marriage doesn't fix the economy. gay marriage doesn't repair the broken education system that our children are being taught in. gay marriage doesn't resolve the mortgage crisis we have now that's starting to effect college student loans.

to the gay hillary supporters that are saying obama's not doing enough for gays or defending gay marriage in california. 1. remember he's already gone out of his way to be progay, more than any presidential candidate has done. to go to a black church and say in front of everything "we haven't done enough for our gay brothers and sisters" takes a lot of fucking guts. he even received a warm reception to it!!!

2. obama saying he's for the california ruling is a political suicide. remember kerry's stance on it in 2004 basically caused all the value voting democrats to vote republicans b/c bush was for banning gay marriage. Do you want people being led by the Pied Piper again?

so can we as a gay community be selfless and put this issue to the back burner? or do we want to perpetuate that stereotype that we're a selfish and narcissistic group of people that only care about our self interests in this day of age, as the Repubs are doing right now?

Right on, Eli. Thanks for posting this.

The alternative to an Obama presidency is a McCain presidency. McCain has expressed his admiration for Scalia, Alito, Roberts, etc. and intention to have similar ideologues as his Supreme Court appointees. Then watch the gay rights march backward. Sure it hurts to see same sex marriage not in Obama's game plan but the alternative is so much worse.

In this day and age, you cannot run for president and be a proponent of gay marriage.

Acting like that's one of the country's most pressing issues is also more than a bit conceited...

The way I look at this is the issues at stake in this and many elections are not about my selfish needs as a gay man. What is at stake is all the myriad of issues expressed above, it's about the needy and vulnerable, those who are invisible in these parades, because there are no parades for healthcare or a living wage.

It's not about me. It's about the least of these among us. Big picture, people.

Thanks again, Eli, I really appreciate your take the most on this site.

Eli = absolutely right. You had me worried with that "I give up" on gay marriage bit, but now I see you are in fine intellectual form.

Cheers.

For the most part, I'm with you, Eli. But it still rankles.

Say "YES" to War on Iraq by Dan Savage Oct. 2002

"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times."

"The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."

Washington Post June 27, 2008

At Least 40 Die in Two Separate Attacks"

Apparently, some in our fine community would rather be idealistic holdouts. I'm not. I'd rather elect Obama and challenge his views on equal rights for gays than watch McCain get elected and continue to destroy equal rights for all.

Let me echo the sentiments about Obama: I'm hoping he'll win because I'm looking at the big picture. We've got a real mess on our hands.

And - once again - let me gently remind everyone that if he has any hope of being elected, Obama has to trod fairly far to the right for the campaign to counteract all the horrible racist crap that is going to be thrown at him from all sides: Witness the lived-too-long Ralph Nader, who apparently thinks all black people need to be like Jesse Jackson.

Gay marriage is inevitable. We just need to be patient.

I'm glad the gay marriage issue cost the Democrats the White House in 2004—*if* it cost us the White House.

If Kerry hadn't have lost to W, we wouldn't be looking at electing Barack Obama this November. Kerry would have been better than Bush, of course, but Iraq would now be the Democrats fault*—how much do you want to bet Republicans in Congress would have opposed the "surge" if Kerry had suggested it?—and we would be fighting to reelect Kerry, not fighting to elect someone that promises to be a transformative president. Our Reagan, perhaps.

*The war, of course, is all my fault. I own up to that.

@11 IPs can be changed you dumb fuck. Of course that's redundant, eh? To be a slogger is to be a dumb fuck. Anyway you know what Dan calls it when he;s eating an asshole and the owner of that asshole farts in his face? Caesar Salad! Get it? No, wel the way Dan explained it he was having lunch art Linda's and of course this would be the topic of conversation foe Dan...Oh now I'm writing like a slogger and boring myself.

Listen Man-you talk tough. Why don't you join the Army or Marines and go fight for the glory of your country-or at least the evangelicals who want to bring on te end times so they can go to heaven in the rapture and dumbfucks like you are left behind and they don't have to deal with your dumb fuckan asses anymore.

@14 Dan, the war is not entirely your fault. The war is the fault of millions of assholes like you who hld the lives of other human beings cheap. Well sort of like you. Unlike you, America's favorite cocksucker, they might actually have to go fight in it. Nice try to use exaggeration to excuse yourself.

Read your words Dan, you arrogant cocksucker. Here you casually dismiss the upcoming deaths of thousands of innocent children:

Say "YES" to War on Iraq by Dan Savage Oct. 2002

"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times."

And here Dan. You talk like a saggering fuckan George W. Bush:

"The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."

And here Dan is one result of the war you supported:

"Bomb Kills Marines, Iraqi Tribal Leaders

Lots of peoiple think you're cool Dan.they follow your lead. I don't get it; but even Bush has a 23% approval rating. Go figure!
At Least 40 Die in Two Separate Attacks"

Fine. If McCain wins the white house because of some shrill bitter queens trying to get revenge for some perceived slight, then *I* (straight person)will have no problem ceasing my donations to gay causes. If you're going to elect McCain, then I will laugh when your marriage rights dry up, and you have to wait another 4-8 years for some traction. If you're going to sell out your cause in the name of revenge, then I withdraw my support.

Maybe you're the reason why it's taken this long to get equal rights for everyone.

It's not a question of if about gay marriage, but when. In time, as more gays come out and demonstrate that they are just like everyone else - working hard trying to make a good life for themselves and their families - straights who feared them will realize that their fears were unfounded, and politicians will realize this fear can no longer be pandered to.

It won't happen because of laws that are passed or court decisions. It will happen as we evolve away from homophobia.

That's why gay marriage I small potatoes when compared with the Iraq War, gas prices, the economy sagging like a 40 year old's titties. Obama is the man who can clean up the mess wrought by Bush & Cheney.

A mess that includes the war supported by Dan Savage. So much so that he went on KVI to hang with John Carlson and trumpet his incredibly gullibe and naïve view on that disaster.

What the hell you were thinking? "Hey, if Dennis Miller can sell out, so can I???"

Hey Dan, your integrity called. He wants to come home!
