Books Reading Today

onTwo open mics and three readings going on today.
At noon, at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop, Elizabeth Sims reads from The Actress, which is about an aspiring actress who gets paid to coach a murder suspect to act more like an innocent human being. I must admit, I’m intrigued by this premise.
At the Elliott Bay Book Company, Russell Howze reads from (and hopefully will have a photo slideshow from) his new book Stencil Nation: Graffiti, Community and Art. I hope some anti-graffiti people show up to complain. That would make for a lively reading.
And then, later in the evening at Elliott Bay Book Company, Susan Linn reads from The Case for Make-Believe. Linn “was mentored by the late Fred Rogers.” I miss Mr. Rogers so fucking much.
Full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is available for your perusal.

Susan Linn next to Mister Rogers is an imposing sight, indeed!
I for one don't miss Mr. Rogers at all. He's the one who helped brain-wash a generation into believing they and their children were 'special'. And unless they ride the short bus to school, your kids aren't special, they're just ordinary/average.
I do miss Mr. Rogers. Remember that episode where we went to the crayon factory? That was awesome. I *am* special, Wilf. And you are too. Uh, wanna be my neighbor? Please?
Paul,
Mister Rogers obviously never taught you about the perils of potty-mouth language. Back to grade school, Constant!
Paul, you miss fucking Mr Rogers???? Oh sorry, you were being with it, eh?.........
Mr Rogers acknowledged that people are special in their own ways. What their parents did with that info is a different story.
I like the time capsule aspect of that Mr, Rogers photo. Those may look like videos on his media shelf, but I suspect that Mr. R had a bitchin' collection of 8-track tapes.
Mr. Rogers was awesome. He even showed us his toilet in one episode.
@7, the time capsule effect is based on the passage of time. And that's Koko's swingin' primate pad in CA, approx. early 1998.
Also, I'd trust a gorilla to put VHS tapes into a slot more than I would them putting a DVD onto a tray...

And note that sagital crest on Koko! Females can have sagittal crests, too, just not as big as on male gorillas. More a function of body weight than anything. Keep that in mind if you ever see one of the very large great apes endemic to the PacNW.
don't fuck with mr. rogers. for real.
