2008 Re: What Should Obama Say?

I’m pretty sure my question from earlier today will be answered shortly, as Barack Obama is currently holding a press conference in Chicago.
In the meantime, here’s John McCain’s response to the new Supreme Court ruling prohibiting the death penalty for child rapists. It begins with the predictable (and Slog-recommended) line, “as a father…” :
As a father, I believe there is no more sacred responsibility in American society than that of protecting the innocence of our children. I have spent over twenty-five years in Congress fighting for stronger criminal sentences for those who exploit and harm our children. Today’s Supreme Court ruling is an assault on law enforcement’s efforts to punish these heinous felons for the most despicable crime. That there is a judge anywhere in America who does not believe that the rape of a child represents the most heinous of crimes, which is deserving of the most serious of punishments, is profoundly disturbing.
Obama should say, "if it were up to me, I'd murder them with my bare hands." That's the kind of stupid shit people like to hear.
Or just not touch this one - the choices seem to be either say something pandering like McCain, or say something intelligent and let someone turn this issue into a Willie Horton for Obama.
Never mind - I didn't read the earlier post that seems to be exactly what I just said.
"As a father" reminds me of the hilarious SNL spoofs of The View where Star Jones would constantly interject "As a lawyer" "Well I AM a lawyah" "Coming from a lawyah"

You can believe "...the rape of a child represents the most heinous of crimes, which is deserving of the most serious of punishments..." and still believe that the death penalty is not appropriate even if you're a ultra-conservative Jesus type; just point to the sixth commandment.
giving hot water to dehydrated babies is a crime. a most despicable crime.
So that's why priests are so outspoken against the death penalty.
Law enforcement is supposed to punish people? Typical idiot viewpoint of our justice system.
