Now Everybody Hates George W. Bush

posted by on June 10 at 10:42 AM

Even, it seems, his batshitcrazy evangelical “base.” Reuters:

U.S. President George W. Bush got polite applause Tuesday for his brief, pre-taped video address to the Southern Baptist Convention, America’s largest evangelical denomination, which is holding its annual meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.

That stood in marked contrast to the standing ovations he received last year from the same group when he did a live broadcast link to its meeting in San Antonio.

And they don’t much like John McCain either:

They are also cool towards presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Several interviewed by Reuters saw him as the lesser of two liberals in the November White House matchup with his Democratic rival Barack Obama.

Polite applause translates to hate? Now-now, Dan, everyone knows that evangelicals are incapable of hatred. Just ask 'em.

I didn't know the Southern Baptists were in town. That might explain the many tornadoes and the widespread flooding we've had in the last few days.

Wow, in 2000 and 2004, as a far-leftie, I felt like I had to vote for the lesser of two conservatives. Now the evangelicals feel like they have to vote for the lesser of two liberals. I do not feel even remotely sorry for them, since their votes for the current Asshole-in-Chief put them in this situation to begin with. If Bush wasn’t such a fuck-up, then maybe they’d have a candidate who was more to their liking.

UHHH - I so hate to have anything in common with Southern Baptists...

Though I don't think I could manage even 'polite applause'.

It's just their way of acknowledging that in eight years shrub has returned them to the state of political irrelevency they occupied before the "Reagan Revolution" of 1980.

Jesus, what do they want? They got two Supreme Court Appointees, a shitload of Gay Marriage Bans, and 8 years of family fucking values! Are they only happy if the gays are all marched into ovens?

Holy christmas! Fucking crybabies!

@7: But not the Rapture. I'm sure that must have been a big letdown.

OK so outside the deplorable center, one half the country thinks McCain is a right wing warhawk psychopath and the other half thinks McCain is a liberal gay-hugging abortionist?

It can't be both.

Can I please be reborn into a sane country?

A current tabloid headline seen @ my local supermarket reads "Bush On Cocaine In White House". The alleged "heartland o' America" denizens are seeing the same headline. Wonder what they think of this?

@10:

I imagine they think, "damned librul media!" as they head home to see what Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh have to say about it.
