Backfired? I'd guess the Republicans were as prepared for the arrival of a black president as the Democrats. I've no doubt they were sincere in their earlier admiration for Colin Powell (that guy mentioned as a potential candidate in days gone by), for example.

Did Eli actually look at the article she links to? There's a bunch of pictures of them smiling smiling smiling. (Clearly they know that every second of their being together is being watched and they need to put on happy faces.) They just chose the one picture where they look like they're in the middle of saying something. (A cheap journalist's trick!)

And that will get him another $100 million or $150 million or so.

And that will get us blanet TV ads like Nike or GM in 50 states.

And that will get us 60+ Senators or so.

And that will get us climate change bill, health care bill, and out of Iraq.
