Not Quite the Picture of Unity

posted by on June 27 at 9:00 AM

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, only sort-of-smiling for the cameras, on their way to Unity, New Hampshire, for their unity—get it, unity?—rally later today.

I bet there are pictures of them smiling. You just suck at internet.

@1 -- Why be so tedious? I mean, really -- someone's trying to keep you informed and this is your response?

That said...Eli, are you being a provocateur??? Try to look on the bright side of life (insert whistles here).

@2: Seriously? What's informative about this post? A picture of two people who aren't making out in political ecstasy is somehow a peek behind the facade of forced joy commanded upon them by the voices stentorian of democracy?

Bullshit. He chose this picture because it confirmed his opinions. Or he just sucks at internet.

Don't tell the story. Tell the story you want to tell and find the facts/images to back it up. That's journalism 101. Right.

Posted by umvue | June 27, 2008 9:18 AM

I think the pantsuit and tie go nicely together. That's enough unity for me.

Posted by DOUG. | June 27, 2008 9:21 AM

Get over it, people! You know it can't be easy to reconcile after such a hard-fought primary season. It's going to take a while.

Posted by Sheesh | June 27, 2008 9:22 AM

If only there was a sex tape behind this story. You know Hillary wants to hit that.

Posted by kerri harrop | June 27, 2008 9:24 AM

"However, if this is true..." It ain't.

Backfired? I'd guess the Republicans were as prepared for the arrival of a black president as the Democrats. I've no doubt they were sincere in their earlier admiration for Colin Powell (that guy mentioned as a potential candidate in days gone by), for example.

Posted by umvue | June 27, 2008 9:25 AM

They're fucking.

Posted by Mr. Poe | June 27, 2008 9:35 AM

Here's a far more convincing argument that Clinton and Obama do indeed get along just fine personally and professionally - but where's the fun media narrative in that?

Posted by cdc | June 27, 2008 9:35 AM

Hillary, how does my ass taste?

Posted by Barrack Obama | June 27, 2008 9:46 AM

Did Eli actually look at the article she links to? There's a bunch of pictures of them smiling smiling smiling. (Clearly they know that every second of their being together is being watched and they need to put on happy faces.) They just chose the one picture where they look like they're in the middle of saying something. (A cheap journalist's trick!)

Posted by M | June 27, 2008 9:53 AM

@12: Oops, I meant "HE". Eli is a "he".

Posted by M | June 27, 2008 9:55 AM

Smiling, not smiling, what the hell does it have to do with anything? This is as bad as the BREAKING NEWS last night that they might be meeting somewhere - in a house! - talking about stuff! - who knows what? - We have no idea either! - but we're still going live with it! - even though the only video we have is of a closed door!

I think he's agreed to pay her campaign debts if she'll get down on all fours and bark like a dog. Fetch a rubber bone. Eat a dog treat. I'm pretty sure.

Posted by Fnarf | June 27, 2008 10:06 AM

@5 Wow you are totally right, I didn't notice that at first.

Posted by PopTart | June 27, 2008 10:11 AM

Cool, they rode a roller-coaster together.

Posted by StC | June 27, 2008 10:14 AM

Where's Hillary's other hand...?

Posted by Oh Snap! | June 27, 2008 10:17 AM

I predict a Fox News host or GOP attack ad will use that photo to prove Obama would require Americans to use the Nazi salute instead of a cross your heart pose during the Pledge of Allegiance.

*Surprise buttseks*

Posted by Banna | June 27, 2008 10:21 AM

This just seems like a dumb post. I like Eli's writing, but to take one photo and scream "look, forced smiles!" is lame.

Posted by stinkbug | June 27, 2008 10:21 AM

@17 - Hey, that's misogynistic!

Posted by Cupping His Ball Sack | June 27, 2008 10:27 AM

your comments are noted for the ongoing bitterness and misogyny.

You hate it that they are uniting for a variety of reasons, including good of country, good of party, ideals, politics, backscratching, goof for the future of Obama, good for the future of Clinton.

When will you get over your pathological need to diss Hillary and call her names?
What's the probelm?

She came too close to winning thus destroying your adulatory myths about Obama?

So she gets shit while Edwards and Richardson and Biden who didn't get jack shit for votes are all a okay and don't get shat upon by the likes of you?

And at the same time you deny there's any seixism or unfairness going on against HRC, whilst also claiming it's the HRC folks who are to blame for lack of unity, who are evil, nasty, not to be trusted blah blah blah.

C'mon. Cut the insults. This is unity time. Didn't you get the memo?

Your dude Obama gave her money, they get along just fine, they are pros, they don't have all this personal drama made up by the media, and when his donors give to her it helps him because then her donors will give to him.

And that will get him another $100 million or $150 million or so.

And that will get us blanet TV ads like Nike or GM in 50 states.

And that will get us 60+ Senators or so.

And that will get us climate change bill, health care bill, and out of Iraq.

So shut the fuck up and get on the unity program assholes.

I call bullshit @22. If Edwards, Richardson, or Biden were newsworthy and came in a close second, I'd be asking one of them how my ass tastes. Ass eating is universal and, hence, gender neutral.

Are you huffing glue again, PC?

Posted by Fnarf | June 27, 2008 11:09 AM

Seriously? Is that the best you can come up with Eli? Somehow you can tell the difference between a standard politician fake smile and a half-hearted fake politician smile?
