Best thing to do for anyone waiting for their replacement is to go buy a new one at Costco. When your replacement finally arrives, return your Costco Xbox to the store and take advantage of their fancy "no questions asked" return policy.
It would be nice if you could just go to Redmond and get one rather than wait for the shipment.
My wii has never had a problem in the past 16 months. And the balance board has been happy for the past 22 days.
I realize I can't play GTA or MGS, but I'm getting along fine without those games.
I just bought a PS3 this morning. I haven't even actually opened the box yet, but I feel like it was a good deal. I got the MGS4 bundle for $499. Came with the Dual Shock Controller, 80G HD and a copy of MGS4. And it's a blue-ray player, which the kids say won the format war.
I'm sorry, but I can't let you do that, Jonah.
get a Wii and a Mac. You will be much happier, iPromise.
Nintendo will love you very long time!

Dude, that red anus of death is really a buzz kill. Our 360 went tango uniform on us a couple of weeks ago. Grrr...
We are also considering making the switch to PS3.
The XBox 360 is sleek and sexy? It's the muffin top of consoles!
My Wii and PS3 have been rock solid. Just sayin'.
We haz GTAIV too and r konsolz iz quiter. win.
I have a PS3 and a Wii. Don't get the Wii. There are a couple of good games for it, but you'll get tired of the novelty, and it's hardly a substitute for the 360. Get the PS3. I've had mine since they first came out and I've never had a single problem with it. Blu-ray is nice, too.
You think the X-Box situation's bad - wait til you use one of their alleged "operating systems" or "software programs"!
@6 is right. Just stop fighting, and go with a Wii and a Mac.
Unless you have a 1080p 42 inch HDTV or better - in that case get a PS3 and a Mac.
I have all three, and the only system i've had a problem with my Wii - they've replaced one wii mote and the actual system. Thankfully Nintendo's awesome repair program gave me a new Wii in 10 minutes of bringing mine the the warranty center in Redmond.
Yes, I know I'm a geek - I know that spending several hours researching online before I purchased my Xbox 360 to make sure I got a chipset that was manufactured after the revised hardware dealt with the issues is not something most people are going to do before buying one - but I feel like for a little work, I've been spared a lot of headaches. Knocking on wood, of course.
Yeah, mine got sent away yesterday, actually, as the disc drive had been clicking and grinding (no real issue, just turn Rock Band up louder!) but GTAIV finally killed it. Fuck.
Just for the record, the film section's freelance cotillion is currently on Box #4. Why can't I quit you, Mass Effect?
Jonah, I'd lend you my 360 in the interim period, but I fear your touch of death.
Mine works fine, but I waited as long as I could before taking the plunge because of how questionably the original Xbox's launch went so many years ago. Early adoption is bad news in terms of rushed games systems. Unless Nintendo makes them.
Forget the rest of these haters' tips, J. Instead, get a DS so we can play the new Tecmo Bowl.
Knocking on wood?
No wonder your Wiimote broke ...
The only reason not to get the Wii is GTA V: Emerald City ... that or you've got a 46 inch or bigger 1080p HDTV set ...
thats why I haven't seen u on since 6-5 or so, daaaamn, thats what u get for crushing people in madden my friend! I have a release console and its running ok- minus having to cycle the pwr when I insert a different game or it will trigger it into DVD mode.
get a ps3, the only regret I have with it is not having enough games for it.
Re: everyone—
I do indeed have a Mac. I also had a Wii but I sold it because it was fucking boring. I ALSO have a 42" 1080p TV, so yeah...that PS3 may be in the cards. If only I had 500 bucks right now.
You saw where the reason all these Xboxes are blowing up is because Microsoft tried to save $10 mil by designing their own GPU from the ground up instead of contracting it to Taiwan, and as a result they've got A BILLION DOLLARS of warranty replacements?

Egads! All I can think about now is Merck marketing gancyclovir for the Xbox360.
"Slather on generously to prevent future outbreaks," while an Xbox kayaks.
Here's a possibility. Grow up and Get a life. Do something besides mental wanking with the spare time.
@21 ... I'm guessing the 42 incher is why you don't have the spare $500, right?
@24: ...says the guy spending his time commenting on slog?
Sorry your 360's bricked. Don't forget the other option; sink your money into pc gaming and leave us console peasants behind.
@1 (and also 8 for some reason).
Try this: instead of buying the Costo X-Box and playing it while waiting on the replacement, buy the Costco X-Box and then return the broken one in its place. No waiting.
Walmart the evile corporation has a $100 off all Blu-ray players, including the PS3, going on now. I suggest the 80GB model.
Um, why don't you try reading a good book instead of playing video games?
Note to everyone, everywhere, ever:
If you always preface big emotional bombs with the words "we need to talk," people won't want to talk with you when you do. Please make a note of it.
I'm sorry you can't play GTA4 right now. Last night I stole a bus, drove through a crowd of people on the airport runway with it, and evaded the resulting 4 star police chase.
@Gabriel Bwaahaahaahaa!
