So, if you're in favor of Hillary conceding graciously and putting her support behind the presumptive nominee, remember to take the time after reading all the other comments to post your own; I wouldn't put it past her to point to the ravings from her site as an excuse to cause more trouble, so at least you can put one drop of sanity into that bucket.

It's already yesterday's news, and can safely be ignored. If these people won't vote Democratic by November, they weren't Democrats to begin with. We'll get 10 for every one of them.

Oh for fuck's sake. Sometimes, Dan, you do seem to manufacture drama.

5% of the population is unhinged. So if 30% of Americans are Democrats, and let's say 10% of those are still clinging to the Clinton bandwagon, you've still got 4.5 million unhinged Clinton supporters. So some of them post to her web site. Big deal.

There's no way in god's green earth that she's going to jump ship or run as an indie.

The Michelle Obama Rant Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women's Event.

Michelle Obama appeared as a panelist alongside Mrs. Khadijah Farrakhan and Mrs. James Meeks.

Bill Clinton spoke during the Conference, as did Bill Cosby and other speakers, but not at the panel Michelle attended.

Michelle Obama spoke at the Women's Event, but referenced Bill Clinton in her rant --- his presence at the conference was the impetus for her raving, it seems.

For about 30 minutes, Michelle Obama launched into a rant about the evils of America, and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa. Michelle personally blamed President Clinton for the deaths of millions of Africans and said America is responsible for the genocide of the Tutsis and other ethnic groups. She then launched into an attack on "whitey", and talked about solutions to black on black crime in the realm of diverting those actions onto white America. Her rant was fueled by the crowd: they reacted strongly to what she said, so she got more passionate and enraged, and that's when she completely loses it and says things that have made the mouths drop of everyone who's seen this.

The "tape" is a DVD that Trinity United sold on its website, and possibly offered free for download up until March 2008 when Trinity's site was scrubbed and the DVDs were no longer offered for sale.

Let me be perfectly clear:

Obama would have added to a Clinton ticket as a VP nod.

Clinton won't add to an Obama ticket as a VP nod.

Obama would have to be nuts allowing Bill Clinton to wander into the White House uninvited while Clinton tried to turn the VP into a powerful position as it was during the Bush Regime.

OK, I'm confused. Tell me again what Obama did to these women or to Hillary? I follow the news pretty closely and I have never heard Obama say anything sexist or disrespectful to, or about, her. Certainly not anywhere near to the extent Hillary & Bill went off on him.

I understand that these women want to vote for Hillary but in the process do they want to vote away their rights to their own bodies, extended war and debt for their children, and unemployment for them and their husbands by voting McCain in?

If she insists on running as a spoiler she will kill herself politically just like Nader does every 4 years. Not only will she shoot herself in the foot she will embody the worst stereotypes of strong women and feminists everywhere and destroy any hope of having another female candidate in our lifetime.

Yes, the media and pundits have made inappropriate sexist comments about her and that would only get worse if she won the primary and ran against McCain and will get far worse if she runs as a spoiler.

In every election there is a winner and there are losers. She lost the primary. Simple as that. It was as fair a contest as we can hope to have in our democratic system and now it is time to move on. There is no benefit to voting McCain into office. There are countless benefits to voting in the person who agrees with Hillary on 90% of policy issues.

Sigh.
The posts over there are a pro-Hillary chorus. No disagreements between the posters whatsoever, which makes me wonder if dissenting posts are washed from the site.
I voted for Hillary in our caucus. At that time in various arenas, I found Obama supporters to be as petulant as what's on Hil's blog now. Eventually Hillary lost my support because though her statements and conduct she lost what I thought made her a strong, skillful candidate. Whether her own doing, her husband's, or the imbeciles running her campaign, she lacked command over how her campaign was run. If she cannot master that, then how can she run a presidential administration?
Unlike these tantrum-throwers at the Hillary site, I'll whole-heartedly support Obama. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can say they'll stay home or vote for McCain if Obama's the nominee. I think it's mainly tantrum throwing at this point. If not, I had no idea the Democratic Party had so many republicans or racists.

@ 34 - if you're not voting for Obama, then you're voting for McCain. Which you may not like, but that's how it goes. Although since I'm assuming you live in Washington, it's not like it really matters one way or the other.

I haven't heard anyone or seen any blog postings that say that it is racism to merely prefer another candidate to Obama. The mutterings of racism start rising when purported Democrats start angrily spitting about how there is no way they are every going to vote for that Barack Hussein Obama guy, but can't enunciate a specific policy disagreement or character flaw that is influencing their decision.

Does anybody use their brain anymore? Voting for the opposing candidate just because your first choice didn't come out on top makes about as much sense as burning your house down because the bookshelves are too high. People like these are the primary reason that direct democracy will never work; they're just too dumb for their own good. We NEED elected officials to make decisions for us, because every time the general populace gets to decide on something they blow it (I-695, smoking ban, monorail, etc.).

I find it hard to believe that these people are actually clinton supporters. If they are, she should drop them like a flaming bag of shit. They want her to be the new ralph nader? Because we all remember how that went down, nader's now a saint and everybody loves him, right? Seriously?

Note to Hillary: these people are NOT your friends. Good intentions or no, they're offering crappy advice.

That's the same mentality that got bush elected because he seemed like a good guy to sit down and have a beer with.

@47: If it works in the peoples favor less than half the time, then it's not working half as well as it should.

Workable direct democracy relies on an informed and educated populace, experience has shown that we possess neither.

just based on the issues you said that direct democracy failed on, i think you have a bigger problem with the outcomes of direct democracy currently but blame the system for those outcomes.

workable direct democracy relies on the losers accepting the outcome of the system regardless of whether it is made by intellectual giants voting or people that only have half a brain.

if hillary wants to be VP she has an incentive to keep the democratic party as divided as possible. by doing so, she'll force barack to pick her up as a running mate. with a unified party before the convention, there would be no point picking her as a VP. If barack can pick a VP BEFORE mccain, he basically erases all this talk of party division, and can go on an aggressive attack all the way til november.

We were among those in Minnesota who supported Hillary at our Democratic caucus, believing that she offered America significant leadership qualities. Throughout the primary season, we have spoken on her behalf.

In view of this, we were very disappointed to hear her graceless speech in response to the South Dakota and Montana primaries. Her failure to acknowledge Senator Obama’s delegate victory in a conciliatory manner seemed to us to be a glaring abdication of the leadership we had hoped to find in her.

Conversely, Senator Obama’s generous and congenial references to her were in marked contrast to the tone of her self-serving and competitive remarks. Her most important job now to help bring factions of the party together – her statement did nothing to achieve that. We do not believe that she served the interests of the party.

Inasmuch as we can no longer admire her as we did, we are moving on in full and respectful support of Barack Obama.

However many million voters she might claim through the primary/caucus process, she should subtract the two of us!

Hillary is a superb person and the only candidate with the capacity to actually govern. Barack lacks the depth of knowledge and governmental experience required to manage the presidency. John is a solo act with more feistiness than logic, so it will be impossible for him to create a real team to accomplish programs, if he can decide what he really wants.

What DOES it take to be a president. Anyone with a good high school education can be good enough. I stress the "good" high school education, foundation education. I don't understand what you guy's problem is. Obviously the best way to protest the lack of a female president is to tirelessly work to undermine undermine women's rights and equality for the next four to eight years.

Hopefully it will be even longer as long as McCain gets to appoint a Supreme Court Judge. But we can only cross our fingers for that one.

With any luck we can totally get Roe vs. Wade overturned, and dare we imagine...Griswold vs. Connecticut? That would be a total dream.

Posted by Jim | June 4, 2008 2:27 PM

I don't see any reason she would want to be the VP on an Obama ticket. Anyone hear Carter's comments? He more or less drew equivalence between those who wouldn't support Obama because of racism and those who prefered a president with more experience. I think she could suspend her campaign until the convention and let Obama carry on as the "presumed nominee" until he can or cannot muster the votes at convention. She should of course be true to her word to endorse Obama if he wins the nomination. Until then, Hillary, Bill and Chelsea could take a well deserved time of rest and reflection.

The best way to work towards unity amongst Democrats is to fix the nomination process and there is clearly many rules and procedures that need fixing. In the short term, maybe the democratic leadership sholud stop bullying and hounding Hillary to quit or concede. She has every right to ask that the race continue until the delegate votes are officially cast at convention - unless Dean, Pelosi and Brazile are going to change them rules before convention.

I am SHOCKED by some of these comments from Hillary's website. I know that her supporters were disappointed that she didn't win the nomination, but to think that ANYONE would vote for John McCain just because HRC isn't the Democratic nominee is just plain STUPID.

Obama is the nominee. Obama is our candidate. Obama is the ONLY CHOICE that we have. A vote for anyone other than Obama in November is a DE FACTO vote for John McCain.

Go ahead and write in HRC's name if you want to. Throw away your vote. Go right ahead. But I tell you now.... if you liked George W. Bush and his vision for the world, then you will love John McCain. Obama is the only choice that we have if we are to put our nation back on track and reclaim our standing as the leader of the world.
