Joy in California

posted by on June 17 at 9:52 AM

Robin Tyler and Diane Olsen shortly after they were legally married in Los Angeles yesterday. Who couldn’t be happy for these women?

Well, this douchebag.

What a great pic.

And, re: douchebag...what an asshole.

Thank you for the pic, but I'm not clicking on nastiness today so I'll have to take your word for the rest.

I saw douchebag's video this morning, and immediately though: wow, his boyfriend is gonna be embarassed.

"Protesting" too much isn't often so literal.

No happy required. Indifference works. Even grudging acceptance acceptable - or should be.

i've been reading the stories on the nyt site all day-the sniffling little romantic in me can hardly take it.

When I watched this video I thought: Wow, that guy really is a first class douchebag. You'd be really hard pressed to find a douchebag bigger than that guy.

Then I made the mistake of reading the comments...

Which made me realize how much I love you, sweet Sloggers. For while we are all guilty of some douchebaggery now and then, I don't believe any of us have managed to slip into the realm of douchedom that the readers on that website have.

Although, knowing you guys, that will probably be taken as a an out-douching challenge... So in that case... Have at it :)

Feel sorry for the douchebag, because he's being left behind in a world without love. Robin Tyler, Diane Olsen, and all the rest, from yesterday, tomorrow, and the rest of history, congratulations.

Douchebag actually has the words "Hate Evil" on his shirt. Look at his eyes in the close up shots. SCARY!

Meanwhile, in the real world, more than 50 percent of Americans in a CNN poll said they think same-sex marriages should be legal in all 50 states.

So tell the iReporter to move to ... um ... Saudi Arabia?

I love how the guy can't even begin to make a coherent argument as to how it persecutes him and not gays. Amazing.

The problem is I've always assumed that young people don't get like that. Apparently not.

ugh. Did he just say "homo-phile". If that was a word, wouldn't that mean the love of one. His poor divided soul. Douchebag, yes.

I thrilled to the word "homophile", but I have an Edwardian bent.

And I can't wait to have my big gay wedding!

Hooray!

Make the "douchebag" a commercial against the ban. Please, Gods, don't have a big California earth quake right now.

did anyone see the octogenarians ladies that got married after being together for 50+ years? Fucking adorable!!

Hey, c'mon folks, if I were that guy I'd be pissed that teh gays are marrying too - let's face it, this guy is probably NEVER going to find someone to marry HIM, so maybe he deserves to feel a little persecuted right now.

Unfortunately, I don't have children - or even know that many. But I've been encouraged to read that most young people see gays - and black people - as perfectly normal. I hope it's true.

Like #15, I hope Mr. Douchebag never marries and never has children to infect with his hatred.

I keep telling myself they'll eventually die out...

Ha ha, all those religious nutcase skanks are gonna gnash their teeth and cry furious tears of blood when I rush down and marry my back-up boyfriend and Kuleeforneeyah huzbund, Brody Jenner.

Suck it, Jayzus!

The best--well, the worst, but you know what I mean--will be when this guy has kids (the only two times he ever has sex) and one of them ends up gay.

Can we all agree on this?:

Any statement beginning, "MY religion teaches that--" can end however you like, as long as you don't then conclude that OUR government should be ramming *your* (or my) religion's teachings down everyone else's throats. There are much more pleasurable things to do with throats - and rammming, for that matter.

Your religion can deny that everyone's entitled to equal civil rights, and you can spend your leisure time with like-minded douchebags and even marry them if you want to. Just keep that separation of church and state clear in your mind while you do, mkay? Because there's no way I'm playing in your sad, boring, bigoted little sandbox.

Oh, I do love to watch the braying jackasses of bigotry grow smaller and smaller in history's rear-view mirror. It warms the cockles of my cold, black little heart.
