i've seen john waters speak on a number of occasions, and each time he delivered the exact same monologue, with a few current events thrown in to make it seem fresh. it was entertaining the first time. the second, third, and fourth, not so much.

reading through this list, it looks like there are just a few skeletal remnants of that monologue (jackie kennedy, juvenile delinquents, negative role models), but overall it looks like he's actually written some new material! perhaps he'll be worth seeing again.

I'm acting in cape cod this summer (somehow), and I heard he likes to run people over on his bike in downtown Proveicetown. Hope I get lucky!

@1: From the last time I saw him (2006), it was about 45-55% new stuff. Some rehashings, but some new stuff. I enjoyed myself for the couple of hours I was there.

It was my first live experience and I enjoyed it, but didn't learn much I didn't already know from reading his books and interviews...but his timing and delivery are brilliant; better than most stand-ups.

Of course, he's been doing this dog and pony show for 30 years...

i love the man's work, and his craziness, but he came and spoke in jacksonville, fl, and it was very disappointing. he seemed like he really didn't want to be there, despite the packed house and the high ticket cost.

After hearing that he'd be in town for a reading via the internets yesterday, I stepped out for lunch only to stand beside him and share a crosswalk with him yesterday on 4th & Marion. He was wearing lovely, bright red pants and carrying a black tote. Very stylish. I was pretty thrilled to see the creepy pencil thin 'stach in person!

1&5: I had the same experience. If you've ever seen an interview with him or read any of his books, you've heard all the stories and it has a rote feel to it. Bitch knows how to tell a joke, however.
